Document 2 is an article on the prohibition of oil drilling near the World Heritage-listed Chaco Culture National Historic Park. Indeed, this 20-year ban taken by President Joe Biden, in order to protect the important sites of the region for the Natives, indeed it represents an important cultural and historical treasure for many Amerindian tribes. Many environmental activists are delighted with this measure, which is considered crucial to preserving the region’s cultural and environmental heritage. Deb Haaland, the Secretary of the Interior, who is the first Aboriginal person to hold this prestigious position, reiterated the importance of honouring Aboriginal people’s ties to their lands. The Navajos have expressed their dissatisfaction with the economic consequences of the drilling ban in the region. Indeed, they argue that the restrictions could prevent Navajo owners from settling on the coast, which would prevent the region’s economic renewal by hydrocarbons, essential for their communities. The Navajos had proposed a compromise with a buffer zone imposed by the president’s administration, but their request was refused. In conclusion, the ban is both a victory for safeguarding cultural and environmental ties,' but it reveals tensions between the protection of land and the economic needs of these very communities.

. Expression écrite Consigne Vous traiterez en anglais, et en 200 mots, l’un des deux sujets suivants: "If we don’t care about our past, we cannot hope for the future. I care desperately about saving old buildings."

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reminds us of the importance of

remembering our past to move forward and glimpse our future.

Indeed, this quote suggests that historical monuments are not

only vestiges of the past but actually represent a close link with

today’s cultural identity, so it is crucial to safeguard these

buildings, such as the Coliseum in Rome, Notre Dame de Paris,

recently restored, or the Greek temples. All these monuments are

a reflection of our history, of our civilizations; they represent the

creativity and progress of humanity over the ages. In addition, the

preservation of these historic sites can represent a significant

economic asset through tourism in cities such as Venice and Rome

in Italy or Berlin in Germany. It is therefore vital for man not to

forget and to feed on our past in order to better understand the

issues of the current world, identity, and culture.
