I/ PROJECT PROPOSAL

1. Project Vision

Figure 1 : Project Vision Our project aims to provide comprehensive insights into the most effective strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of the digital sector while maintaining its innovation and growth. We envision a future where the digital sector can continue to thrive and innovate while significantly reducing its impact on the environment. Through our research, we aim to identify the most promising strategies for reducing carbon emissions in the digital sector, such as increasing the use of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and promoting sustainable practices in the design, manufacturing, and disposal of digital devices. We also aim to explore the potential economic benefits of implementing these strategies, such as reduced energy costs and improved public perception of environmentally responsible companies. Ultimately, our project vision is to provide practical recommendations and actionable insights for companies, policymakers, and other stakeholders to reduce the carbon footprint of the digital sector without sacrificing its innovation and growth. By doing so, we hope to contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future for the digital sector and the planet as a whole.

2. Define the requirements

Since each student in this survey came from many people who studied in different major and practiced at different companies to find out what the survey wanted, my research paper had to meet the following requirements:

 Select suitable research subjects: students from Universitiy of Greenwich Da Nang  Questions closely related to the results  Collected data is highly reliable  Conclusions must be based on evaluated data  Survey questions must provide the necessary data for the topic  Report: The report must include all requirements in the summary such as literature review, preliminary research, analysis of results, solutions.

3. Describe the deliverables

Figure 2 : The deliverables My research paper is divided into different research phases, with different research methods. So after each phase I have different intermediate research results. The following are some of the results of the main research phases of my research:  Research Proposal: A detailed research proposal that outlines the research question, objectives, methodology, data sources, and timeline for the project. This document will provide an overview of the project and help to obtain approval and support from the academic or organizational institution.  Literature Review: A comprehensive literature review that provides an overview of existing research and insights into strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of the digital sector while maintaining innovation and growth. This review may include academic journals, industry reports, and other relevant sources.  Survey Instrument: A survey instrument that includes questions related to the research question and measures students' knowledge, attitude, and behavior towards digital technologies and sustainability. Student Name: Phan Nhat Linh Student ID: GCD Assessor name: Phyo Min Tun Unit 13: Computing research project All of my reports will be delivered to Dr. Phyo Min Tun. He will also assess this report. As I said in the first assignment, because my issue involves the usage of online public services, the respondents to my survey are all Vietnamese residents of legal age. As a result, I contacted the survey participants and obtained their agreement in a clear manner. And I'll be able to apply the knowledge I've gained.

II/ RESEARCH PROCESS

1. Identify the problem

Figure 4 : Identify the problem The digital sector has experienced rapid growth in recent years, bringing about various economic and social benefits. However, this growth has also resulted in a significant increase in the sector's carbon footprint, which is contributing to the global climate crisis. This issue raises concerns about the sustainability of the digital sector's continued growth and its potential negative impact on the environment. While there are some efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the digital sector, there is a lack of consensus on the most effective strategies to mitigate its impact while maintaining its innovation and growth. This problem presents a challenge for policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental advocates, who must strike a balance between the sector's growth and the need to reduce its carbon footprint. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to identify the most effective strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of the digital sector and maintain its innovation and growth. The study aims to provide insights for policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental advocates on the best approaches to address this critical issue.

2. Literature review

As part of my research, I will be conducting a survey to collect data on relevant topics. By analyzing the survey results, I will gain valuable insights into the attitudes, opinions, and behaviors of the participants regarding the subject of my study. This data will provide empirical evidence to support my argument and help identify any gaps or areas that require further investigation.

4. Choosing the study design

Figure 5 : Work Breakdown Structure

5. Decide on sample design

In this section, I will outline my participant selection criteria to ensure a suitable sample for my research. As my previous study highlighted, the target population for my survey is students at the University of Greenwich Danang. Therefore, I will develop specific selection criteria to ensure that the participants meet the necessary demographic and academic requirements.

6. Collect data

At this stage, I will conduct the primary research by gathering data through a survey. To gather participants' thoughts on the problem I am examining, I have created a series of questions using Google Forms. By utilizing online surveys, participants can easily and conveniently provide their

responses through the internet. Once a sufficient number of responses have been collected, I will analyze the data to obtain the necessary insights for my research.

7. Data processing and analysis

In this stage, I analyze the data collected from the survey and draw conclusions based on the diagrams and statistics generated. By reviewing and compiling the list of issues raised by the survey respondents, I gain a deeper understanding of the obstacles and difficulties associated with the topic I have chosen. I then use this understanding to develop tailored solutions that integrate multiple approaches to address all of the challenges and problems presented by the survey participants. These solutions are aimed at minimizing the carbon footprint of the digital sector while maintaining its innovation and growth.

8. Write a report

After completing the first seven stages, I am ready to move on to the next phase of my research. During this final stage, I will compile a comprehensive report that outlines the entire 7-stage process, including the purpose, objectives, research methodology, findings, and conclusions. This report will be evaluated by my professor, who will assess my ability to conduct research, analyze data, and draw meaningful conclusions based on my findings. It will also serve as a record of my research process and provide valuable insights and recommendations for future studies on this topic. III/ REFLECTION ON THE MERITS, LIMITATIONS AND POTENTIAL PITFALLS OF THE CHOSEN METHODS

1. Secondary research

 Advantages: Secondary research offers several advantages, such as being a cost-effective and time-efficient approach as it relies on previously collected data. The findings from previous studies can provide a solid foundation for understanding the problem or topic being researched, allowing researchers to quickly identify potential solutions or determine the need for further research using different methods.  Disadvantages: Despite its benefits, secondary research has several limitations. One of the biggest drawbacks is the challenge of finding information that is specific to the researcher's needs, as existing research data may not address the current research questions.
