INPUT DEVICES

๏ƒ˜ KEY BOARD

๏ƒ˜ MOUSE

๏ƒ˜ LIGHT PEN

๏ƒ˜ BARCODE READER

๏ƒ˜ MAGNETIC INK CHARACTER

RECOGNITION (MICR)

MOUSE

Use to point and select an option

on the monitor

Mouse may have 2 or 3 buttons.

Two Types

Mechanical Mouse โ€“ uses ball

Optical Mouse โ€“ uses led

LIGHT PEN :

It is a pointing device that can be

used to select an option by simply

pointing at it ,or drawing figures

directly on the screen.

A light pen has a photo-detector

at its tip.

Used for drawing graphics in

MICR

Recognizes the character

by scanning them

Special ink prints these

characters

Area used is bank

OUTPUT DEVICES

MONITOR

PRINTER

PLOTTER

Each character is formed by a

no of tiny lightened dots called

pixels

The no of dots per unit area is

called resolution.

VDU screen can display 24 lines

each line can have 80 characters.

PRINTER

Use to obtain output on paper.

Two categories

IMPACT & NONIMPACT

IMPACT PRINTERS

In this type pressing a type face against

an inked ribbon which makes a mark

on the paper prints characters.

Ex โ€“ DOT MATRIX PRINTER(DMP)

NON IMPACT PRINTERS

No contact between the type face

and the paper while printing

Ex : Laser printer & Inkjet

printer

INKJET Printer

Use heat & jets of ink to print

characters

LASER PRINTER

Uses a light beam to form images

on the paper using toner ink as

medium.

It produce very high quality output

for both text and graphics.Used in

publishing.

Expensive.

SPEED

Measured in terms of

Characters per second.(CPS)

Lines per second(LPS).

Pages per Minute (PPM)

DOT MATRIX โ€“ 200CPS TO 540

CPS

LASER โ€“ 4 โ€“ 20 PPM

QUALITY OF OUTPUT

Printers can operate in 3

different modes.

Draft

Near letter quality

Letter quality.

PLOTTERS

Use to create high quality

visuals on paper.
