TYPE 0 (General truths, facts)

  • If /when I heat water at 100º, it boils.
  • Ice melts if / when we heat it.

TYPE 1 (Likely to happen)

  • If I eat healthy food, I will feel better.
  • I will be on shape if I go on a diet.

TYPE 2 (IMAGINARY SITUATION)

  • If I were you, I would talk to her.
  • I would help you if I could.
  • If he were rich, he would help people in need.
  • If + past tense, // main clause in the simple conditional (would + bare infinitive)

TYPE 3 (IMPOSSIBLE)

  • If I had studied, I would have passed.
  • You would have seen him if you had gone to the party.
  • If I had known you were at home, I would have come round.
  • IF + past perfect,// main clause in the perfect conditional (would + have + participle)
