A new species of boa was discovered in the Dominican Republic, a small boa with big
eyes and a square nose. Naturalist Miguel Landestoy discovered the snake. The fact
that a new boa species was found fascinated scientists, since the last time a new
species was discovered in that island was back in 1888. This specific species of boa is
among the smallest ones, having in mind that the average adult boa measures 2
meters, the hispaniolan vineboa measures less than a meter. But this species may
already be in trouble because of the agriculture that happens on that island.
I think that this article is very interesting. I’m a person that likes snakes a lot and finding
out that a new species was found always calls my attention. I would like for scientists to
find these snakes a new habitat since they are in trouble. I didn’t know a new species of
boa hadn’t been discovered in over a century, so that’s one thing I learned.
