Group Project # 2
Design a Survey
Select a topic of your interest for a survey. Write at least eight close-ended survey
questions and one open-ended question in your survey.
Give a short presentation during the class on Nov 6, including the following:
1. Research objective(s), particularly what is the topic you plan to survey and the
significance of doing it?
2. Close-ended and open-ended questions and the reasons for choosing these questions
(i.e. why these questions are relevant and important to ask). You may need to do some
literature research or interview some people who belong to the target population of your
study to find out what the main issues/concerns are in the study. For example, in an
online shopping website, a sense of security is an important concern to the shoppers.
3. A plan on how to conduct the survey and the reason for that. In particular, do you
plan to do a mail survey, personal administration, or internet survey and why? What
sampling technique will you use to select your survey sample and why?
Submit a technical report for the project on Nov 11. The report should include the
following content.
1. Introduction
The introduction section describes the topic you plan to survey and significance of
doing it
2. Technical approach
2.1 Survey Question
List all the close- and open-ended questions and reasons for choosing them.
2.2 Survey plan
Describe how you plan to conduct the survey (both how to distribute the survey and
how to select the survey sample) and the reasons for it.
3. Conclusion and discussion
A short summary of what you have done in this project. A short discussion of what
you have learned in this project and any thoughts you have related to the topic that
were not covered in the previous sections.
