ANNOUNCED VS UNANNOUNCED OBSERVATION
Classroom observation has various effective and vital educational purposes. Three
significant purposes or areas where methodical classroom observation has been broadly
used: (1) description of instructional practices; (2) investigation of instructional disproportions
for different groups or types of students; and (3) improvement of teachers' classroom
instruction based on feedback from individual classroom or school profiles. Always
remember observation is done not to find mistakes in teaching but to help the teachers to
improve teaching learning strategies and pedagogical approaches.
As an observer and a technical assistance provider, the following should be
considered during the classroom observation: (1) The Philippine Educational Aim; (2) Child
Growth; (3) Good Teaching and Learning; and (4) Democratic Teaching Procedure.
Observation is a good tool to used in teaching-learning situation. What is the main objective
of a supervisor why he/she need to observe a teacher? Simply as a technical assistance
provider I need to witness and analyze the teaching-learning situation in which learning is
taking place. The reason for witnessing the learning situation is to help to improve the
teaching and learning that is taking in right place. As an observer the result of classroom
observations should be positive and constructive. It should be shown in the light of positive
to the teachers and the learners. Being one of the technical assistance providers I always
practice democratic leadership which takes place respect for the personality and opinion of
the teacher and the learners.
Improving teacher quality is the need to upgrade assessment tools for teachers. I
believe classroom observation is one of the best tools to apply innovative instructional
means, high quality teaching learning processes and conveying knowledge to the different
learners. According to DEPED-4A-RM No.550 s2018, Classroom visit or observation of
teachers by more than two superiors is strongly discouraged. However, the classroom
observation protocol in the RPMS-PPST manual must be followed. In line with this
unannounced observation is also discouraged and prohibited, meaning the observer should

conduct the classroom observation based from the schedule agreed by the teacher and the observer. I obtain unannounced observation is significant in teaching learning situation. It is significant in the sense that it serves as stimulating components to always be ready and prepared to the class. Through with these methods of observation, the teacher will always apply best solutions to improve and enhance his/her weaknesses in teaching with the help of the observer or TA provider. As observer I can give better technical assistance to point out on how to make teachers weaknesses to make it their strengths during post conference/ feedbacking. The main purpose of post-conference is to guide the teacher on how to make his/her best in teaching approaches. I think that the shift to including an unannounced component to our observation system has been a positive one. I realized this may not be a revelation for those who have always conducted unannounced observations. Announced observation is useful on my part because it will help me to prepare my teaching instructional tools. It is also less pressure to the part of the teacher to formulate not only the tools in teaching but also it helps them to become physically, mentally. and emotionally prepared on the day of observation. The teacher may also prepare lesson and activities that are attainable and realistic. Systematic observation and analysis of classroom behavior represents an exciting new tool for the improvement of teaching used with rapidly increasing frequency in educational research during the last ten years, we now have several proven observational instruments which are now ready for wide-scale use in the public schools. Classroom observation objectives is to assured quality education and produce good and best learners. Technical assistance is important after the observation. As one of the observers, I must be dependable, enthusiastic, courageous, and tolerant. I must not afraid to inspire action in understanding which seem difficult. As teacher we should omit the connotation of observation is a burden to teacher’s life but instead it is a motivating means to improve weaknesses, inspired learners and provide quality teaching approaches.
