Topic: Describe a wave and identify parts of the Electromagnetic Spectrum from longest to shortest.

Wave โ€“ a disturbance that transfers energy through matter and space.

Two properties of waves:

  1. Wavelength โ€“ the distance between one crest of a wave to the next crest
  2. Frequency โ€“ the number of wavelengths that pass a point in a given amount of time.

Frequency and wavelength are related. Short wavelength โ€“ high frequency

Long wavelength โ€“ low frequency

Explain electromagnetic energy and

Energy that travels through space in the form of waves is called electromagnetic energy. This energy is a type of radiant energy.

All electromagnetic waves travel at the same speed โ€“ about 300,000 km / sec. (The speed of light !)
