Briefly describe how computers have evolved over generations?
Title: Evolvation of computer over generation's
Introduction: A computer is an electronic device that manipulates data and information. It has the
ability to store ,retrieve and process data. Over the decades computer have evolved. In the beginning
computers were very large and slow , Now a days computers have become smaller and faster , people
use them anywhere .Now they become more advanced. For example : business email list is used by
professional reach to more customers.(1)
Abacus Computer :
Abacus is first calculating device. It is also called counting frame . It consists of a bamboo frame with
beats sliding on wires. Bead frame consist of beats divided in to tens they use to teach arithmetic. (2)
1. First Generation : (1946-1959) First electric computer was invented by J.P.Eckert and
J.W.Mauchy called ENIAC stands for “Electronic Numeric Integrated and Calculator “
Example
ADVAC
IBM-701
2. Second Generation : (1959-1965) They consists of transistor. Assembly language and punch
cards were used for input.
Example
IBM 7094
CDC 1604
3. Third Generation : (1965-1971) They based on integrated circuits . Robert Noyce and Jack
Kilby. IC was invented in 1958-59 . IC contains number of transistors.
Example
PDP-8
IBM 360
Forth Generation : (1971-80) They based on microprocessor . A microprocessor is used to
perform logical and arithmetic function in any program. GUI (Graphical user interface )
technology offer more comfort.

  3. First Generation : (1946-1959) First electric computer was invented by J.P.Eckert and J.W.Mauchy called ENIAC stands for “ Electronic Numeric Integrated and Calculator “ Example  ADVAC  IBM-
  4. Second Generation : (1959-1965) They consists of transistor. Assembly language and punch cards were used for input. Example  IBM 7094  CDC 1604
  5. Third Generation : (1965-1971) They based on integrated circuits. Robert Noyce and Jack Kilby. IC was invented in 1958-59. IC contains number of transistors. Example  PDP-  IBM 360 Forth Generation : (1971-80) They based on microprocessor. A microprocessor is used to perform logical and arithmetic function in any program. GUI (Graphical user interface ) technology offer more comfort. Example

 IBM 4341

 DEC 10

Fifth Generation : (1980-onwards ) Artificial intelligence is used in this generation. It is capable of learning and self organization based on ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration ) technology. Example Desktop , Laptop , note book , ultra book , chrome book , etc. (3) Basic types of computer :  Mini computer : (mid 1960s) A minicomputer has all the features of a large size computer, but it’s size is smaller than those. They are mainly multiple users system. (4) Example : o IBM,S AS/400e , o Honey well 200  Mainframe computer : (1950s) They are used by large organizations for critical applications; bulk data processing , such as census. They are large and more processing power. (5) Example : o IBM SYSTEM Z o IBM Z System Z o IBM 704  Super computer : (1964) It performs currently highest operational rate for computers. They have been used for scientific and engineering applications that must handle very large data bases or do great amount of computation. (6) Example : o Belle o Deep blue o Hydra  Microcomputer : (1970s and 1980s) A small , relatively in expensive computer with a microprocessor as it's CPU. It consists of microprocessor, memory and input/output circuitry mounted on a single printed circuit board. (7) Example : o personal computer o desktop computers o mobile phone o tablets PCS
