1 To maintain a positive working environment that promotes learning and growth, both the supervisor's and the supervisee's duties are crucial. The developmental aspect of the supervisor's role includes coaching, mentoring, and even counseling their subordinates. They help the supervisee to develop critical skills by providing direction, keeping an eye on, and enforcing consistency and moral behavior. In addition, the supervisor should encourage the supervisee to do self-analysis and serve as an example of professionalism in the sector. The supervisee's role, on the other hand, is to be an active participant in the supervisory process rather than a passive one. This includes practicing self-reflection, being open to learning, and appreciating other people's input. Additionally, a supervisee should be able to attend supervision meetings to pick up tips from the supervisor. Certain actions taken by a supervisee, such as becoming defensive in the face of criticism, communicating poorly, or disobeying advice from the supervisor, can be detrimental to the supervisee-supervisor relationship. To avoid such problems, a supervisee should adopt the following traits: professionalism, a readiness to receive constructive criticism, a continuous learning mindset, and regular supervisee-supervisor communication. Establishing expectations early on in a professional relationship is also important to prevent unrealistic expectations that can cause rifts between the two parties. Scenario A certified therapist is seeing a client; Joe, for depression and anxiety. Following a community gathering, the therapist discovers that Joe's son plays soccer with his son. Joe is the coach and requests that the therapist serve as his assistant coach for the team.
