The Associate of Arts degree (A.A.) at JCCC is a general transfer degree and partners well with the first two years of most
bachelor degree programs. Students pursuing the A.A. may select courses that satisfy both the A.A. degree requirements
and lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree at four-year institutions. The elective hours within the A.A. allow
students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The A.A.
degree requires completion of 60 credit hours. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of
appropriate courses.
The Allied Health Department at Washburn University offers an online Bachelor of Health Science (BHS) degree. This
program is designed to provide graduates with knowledge and skills in the area of management and leadership.
Students without healthcare backgrounds may expand opportunities in healthcare or prepare for a graduate program
through the completion of a Washburn BHS degree.
Admission Requirements
Apply for admission, including $20 application fee (non-refundable). Complete the application online
at www.washburn.edu/admissions.
Send official transcripts of all previous college work to: Washburn University, Office of Admissions, 1700 SW
College, Topeka, KS 66621 or submit them electronically at etranscripts@washburn.edu
Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of 120 semester hours of credit
Minimum of 60 semester hours from Washburn or a four-year college or university; at least 30 hours must be
completed through Washburn
Minimum of 45 semester hours of credit from courses at the upper division level (300-400 numbered courses)
Minimum of 12 hours in the major must be in the upper division courses.
Minimum of 84 graded hours
Grade of “C” or better in courses counting towards the university requirements, major, and minor
Requirements for Admissions into the Bachelor of Health Science Program
A cumulative GPA of 2.50 and Washburn GPA of 2.25 (if applicable) on a 4.00 scale
AND
Option 1 - For non-credentialed majors
45 Completed College Credit Hours (includes the courses listed below)
MA 112 Contemporary College Mathematics or MA 116 College Algebra or equivalent (3)
AL 101 Foundations of Healthcare (3)
AL 320 Human Disease (3)
BI 230 Intro to Human Physiology (3) or BI 255 Human Physiology w/Lab (4) OR
BI 250 Intro to Human Anatomy (3) or BI 275 Human Anatomy w/Lab (4)
AL 355 Basic Concepts in Health Services Administration (3)
OR Option 2 - For credentialed applicants
Provide documentation that you are credentialed, licensed, or registered in a healthcare profession.
OR Option 3 - For associate degree earners
Associate’s degree or higher in a healthcare program from an approved Allied Health program. The following are
examples of acceptable health care programs: Biotechnology, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Science, Health
Information Systems, Health Information Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology,
Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapy, and Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Washburn General Education Requirements

Recommended courses: Any ARTH, MUS or THEA course 6 hours from any ENGL, HUM, PHIL, REL, MUS, ARTH, FL, COMS, THEA, or LIBR class Social Science (9 hours - no more than 6 hours in one discipline) Social Sciences 9 9 hours from any ANTH, ECON, GEOS, HIST, POLS, PSYC, or SOC class Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics (9 hours - no more than 6 hours in one discipline) Natural Sciences, Math, and Statistics 9 9 hours from any BIOL, CHEM, PHYS, ASTR, PSCI, GEOS, or MATH (excluding 111, 115, 116 or 171) class.

  • JCCC course has a prerequisite or corequisite. Note: Students transferring to Washburn with 30 or more credit hours completed at an accredited post-secondary institution with a GPA of 2.0 or higher are exempt from the requirement to take WU 101 The Washburn Experience or HN 101 Honors First Year Experience.
