Project 1: Development of a control system for the stair climbing robot (3 students) Supervisors: The system: A stair climbing robot (belt driven) with two arms. The robot is equipped with motor drive cards as well. There are 4 motors in total – 2 to move the robot and 2 to move the arms. The controller should be able to help the robot follow a given linear and angular velocity profile (commands generated by a higher level master controller or a human teleoperator), and commands to raise the arms. Autonomous random walk and control of the arms to move over the ditches, to climb up/down stairs and to flip over the robot are also part of this project. Project 2: Design, Fabrication and control of a heating system for chemical processes (3 Students) Supervisors: The object is to develop a system to maintain a constant temperature in a container filled with some chemical in liquid form. Such a system finds its applications in fabrication of different chemicals, such as polymers, and their heat treatment. There are several challenges in development of such a system. A huge variation in the amount of liquid chemical in a particular experiment, ambient temperature and the thermal properties of the chemical, such as specific heat, makes the system time variant (and uncertain). Moreover, in general there is only heating arrangement but no cooling arrangement to bring the temperature down when required. So a precise control of temperature is a challenge in such a system. Moreover, safety is another issue, for example, the chemical may evaporate entirely resulting in some damage to the equipment of glass containers. This project includes design and fabrication of the mechanical setup, a controllable AC supply, instrumentation and a programmable controller to follow a certain temperature profile. Project 3: Development of a system to pour a chemical liquid drop by drop to fabricate polymer beads (1-2 students) Supervisors: The project aims at a prototype system to pour a chemical liquid drop by drop to fabricate polymer beads. This project include design of the mechanical set up, development of motor drive and its control with a user friendly interface. Project 4: Development of Active Noise Control (ANC) Experimental Setup Supervisors: The project aims at improving the design of the ANC existing system and its implementation of a DSP processor. This project involves electronics, filter design, programming and interfacing with a DSP processor. docsity.com
