Five Key Interprofessional Stakeholders for Advocacy Action Team Kasi Jordan Western Governors University D025: Essentials of Advanced Nursing Roles and Interprofessional Practice Sandy Kangas

  1. School Superintendents of Alabama: Assist in the implementation of the sex education classes and to ensure each school system is providing this education in an appropriate setting with positive feedback from students and/or parents.
  2. Alabama Department of Public Health: Each county’s health department will continue to keep track of STI rates and work in collaboration with the school systems to help provide information to students that are up to date and medically correct. If a school does not have a hired nurse on staff to hold sex education classes, then one will be provided by that county’s health department.
  3. School Staff: Principals, Vice Principals, and School Nurses will be included to form a plan to provide sex education and STI prevention to the students at their schools. Students and their parents should be informed of upcoming classes with optional meeting availability to address questions or concerns if requested.
  4. Parent Teacher Association: The PTA should hold meetings to allow parents to meet the nurse that will be holding the class as well as inform parents of the specific details about what will be taught to students. Parents will be able to ask questions, voice concerns, or provide ideas which could ultimately assist in providing better education to the students.
