Three filipino values: pakikisama (loyalty and equality towards others), family orientation (importance of family in filipino society), and hospitality (warmth and generosity towards guests). Pakikisama is expressed through good deeds and respect for others, while avoiding corruption. Family orientation emphasizes the central role of the family in filipino life, economic activities, and social organization. Hospitality is a hallmark of filipino culture, with a strong emphasis on welcoming guests and offering them the best. The document also discusses the various components of the filipino family and the paternalistic management style.

Loyalty or Pakikisama is another Filipino value. It is treating others with the respect and dignity as an equal and not someone below the individual. Filipinos are said to be loyal to their friends and fellowmen in order to guarantee the peace in the group. Filipinos develop sympathy to the nature and quality of interpersonal relationships, which are their main cause of security and happiness.
Consists of doing somebody a good act, like helping a man build house without asking for payment, or helping a man look for a job. Is he does these and other related things, he is said to be “Mabuting makisama”. If he does the opposite, he is called “Masamang makisama”. Does not mean doing corrupt or dishonest things in order to look good to others. Is a positive value and means doing somebody a good turn. Can cause some problems. Several people will attempt to reason out using the word “pakikisama” to take advantage of a situation like tapping on cable or electricity, borrowing things or money and probably never be returned, and never be able to refuse because of the feel betraying them. Basically, in business it is a practical translation of one’s pakikipagkapwa-tao because the intention is to offer things and services of value to others to get better their standards of living. The businessman that has pakikipagkapwa-tao does not cheat his customers through overpriced or under weighed goods. Customers pay, competitors play fair, and workers demonstrate malasakit over the business. If pakikipagkapwa-tao developed well, it should promote and uphold the vision of Filipino enterprise.
Elementary Family – mother, father and children. Bilateral Extended Family- which embraces all relatives of the father and the mother. Sibling Group- the unit formed by brothers and sisters. The Philippine is known to be a family centered nation. The Filipinos recognize their family as an important social structure that one must take care of. They give importance to the safety and unity of one’s family. A Filipino’s life is the family. Not like in Western countries, Filipinos upon turning eighteen (18) years old are not obliged to move out of their parents’ home and get a place for himself.
Religious responsibility, for instance, is familial rather than church-centered. Each home has a family shrine. The influence of the family upon economic and entrepreneurial business activities is also great. The prevailing family structure stresses loyalty and support of the family, not of any higher level of social organization. The Filipino family is the central unit around which social activities are organized. Is the basic unit of group action. The superior and subordinate often exist in a bata relationship. Bata is a system basically similar to that of between parent and child (bata literally meaning child). Paternalistic, management styles are the standard. Paternalistic and hierarchical management structure means that decision making in most organizations is prepared by the top officials. The Filipino family is classified rather largely, and consists of many people who are called Tito (uncle), Tita (auntie) and Pinsan (cousin), even if they are not related by blood.
Refers to the relationship between guest and the host. Although Filipinos are not the only people in the world who can be friendly and welcoming, their attitude towards other people is said to be exceptional. The host entertains and gives relieve to the guest while staying in house of the host. The Filipino are very hospitable when it comes to their fellowmen. They will invite their visitors to come into their homes and offer them treats such as snacks and drink after a long journey. Filipinos will serve only the best to their visitors even if at times they may not be able to afford it. Even the humblest home along the road can serve as a shelter for a stranger who has lost his way. For Filipinos serving other people the best of what they have is an honor and a promise of true friendship. Typical Filipino house is not fully called a home without any place prepared for unexpected visitors. It is filled with new and lovey items held in reserve only for them.
