is what is called a situation/need.
A Situation is a real-life circumstance pertinent to some
question or goal which enables one to identify a problem.
(The problem is called a Need)
Once a need has been identified, there comes a design
brief.

 Once a need has been identified, there comes a design

brief.

DESIGN BRIEF

 A design brief is a statement that identifies what one plan to do,

for whom, where it will be used and why one has chosen to

follow this route.

 It may include details such as;

 What the problem is

 Where the problem is

 The function of the product

EXAMPLES OF A DESIGN BRIEF

I am going to design and make a piece of modern

jewellery for my cunhado who will be celebrating his

birthday very soon. The jewellery will be worn

when he meets family on this special day.

tool holder to secure different categories of tools of a

craftsman when working on workbench as a solution

to the problem described on problem situation section.

 Places: where the product is going to be used

 Properties: style, finish and materials to be used

 Products: availability of similar products on the market

 Process: the process needed to produce the product

 Price: The selling price compared to expenditure
