1. Why do sociologists find it important to differentiate between sex and gender? What importance does the differentiation have in modern society? Because Gender and Sex are two significantly different term. Sex categorizes according to biological factors while Gender categorizes according to social factors, so that sociologist may not be confused regarding with the two aspects. In our Modern world today, differentiation is important, to avoid gender streotyping. Prevent from misunderstanding of what are the gender roles. 2. How is children’s play influenced by gender roles? Think back to your childhood. How “gendered” were the toys and activities available to you? Do you remember gender expectations being conveyed through the approval or disapproval of your playtime choices? Plays and toy preference significantly affects the childrens gender role. Parents often encourage there children in there appropriate play patterns, play groups, and toy preferencs as they shape expected behavior, which directly influences there gender role. Mostly masculine toys available in my childhood. Yes, my father usually scolded me, i never really shown any interest at basketball nor any sports. 3. In what way do parents treat sons and daughters differently? How do sons and daughters typically respond to this treatment? Parents unconsciously treat there sons and daughters differently. They overestimated the ablitites of boys while underestimating the girls. Parents expected that boys will be tough, self reliance and aggressive, while girls are expected to be dependent, shy and caring. Son's usually respond Both sons and daughters must comply, act as there expected behavior and follow orders. But boys can rebel because fathers often discloses emotions to boys rather than to girls.
