1. Select three (3) technologies that you are using now and trace from what technology
it was patterned during the ancient and medieval eras. Discuss its development?
In every technology that you have selected, discuss it in not more than 150 words.
15 points)
a. WATCH - watch with sundial → mechanical clock→ modern watch/digital watch
A watch is a portable timepiece intended to be carried or worn by a person. It is like a
small version of a clock. The clock and watch seemed to have come from China, though
it was developed into the present form in Europe. In the 11th century an ingenious
mechanism was devised which imparted a to-and fro motion, thus the mechanical clock
was born. Time keeping devices have emerged since the ancient world, but it was not
until the Middle Ages that the technology was invented that allowed for mechanical
clocks to accurately keep track of time. Innovations were made and the mechanical
clocks that were first invented developed into more accurate and less expensive clocks.
As time went by, our time keeping device improved better as we see now as a watch,
more convenient and handy in everyday use. And nowadays we have different types of
watches, and the popular one today was a digital watch.
b. PAPER - Only a few short centuries ago, paper was rare, expensive and was used only
for notes, letters and even more expensive books. Today, paper is all around us and we
are in contact with it every day. Paper is a thin material produced from natural (or very
rarely artificial) fibers, pressed together into solid structure after they are loosened in hot
water. This was established more than 2000 years ago during the Ancient Period, in
China, and from that time it changed very little, only being enhanced by occasional
advances of chemistry which caused creation of countless variations of paper types.
Today, we are using paper all around us, and not only to write or paint on it, but also as a
widely versatile material that can be used almost anywhere.
c. PRINTER - A printer is an external hardware output device that takes the electronic data
stored on a computer or other device and generates a hard copy . Printing is much more
than just ink on a paper. Printing is an art form that is mixed with science. This was
patterned in nineteenth-century society, a time well versed in the uses and advantages
of Gutenberg’s printing press, the typewriter changed the way people thought about
writing. The printing press was invented during the medieval period, used to address the
need for publishing books that would spread information to many people at a faster rate.
This invention also made works accessible to individuals who could not even write. And

2. Discuss one technology that was invented in the Philippines. Does it affect you

personally? How about the economy of our country? (10 points)

Jeepneys. It is the most common form of transportation in our country today. They are known

for their crowded seating and kitsch decorations, which have become a widespread symbol of

Philippine culture and art. A Filipino invention, though born from necessity, ingenuity, and thrift.

After the Americans colonized the Philippines, the Filipinos were able to create their own

version of the "jeepney" from scratch. Ever since, this vehicle has been seen on practically every

street and road in the Philippines, and it has become our country's major form of transportation.

This Philippine vehicle has undergone many transformations and the modern "E-jeepney” was

introduced in Metro Manila and Bacolod City.

This invention greatly helps me in everyday life, especially in schooling, like back then

without pandemic, we had to transport from home to school. The jeepney is the cheapest way to

commute in the Philippines. Because of its open rear door design, picking up and dropping off is

easy for both passengers and drivers, they can stop anywhere unlike buses. This helps

everyone to get to their destination easily by just paying required jeepney fares. This also affects

our country as it provides new job opportunities for filipinos. While it cannot be denied that the

modernization of public transport will gravely affect individual and small-time jeepney operators

and owners, on the other hand it will pave the way to the car manufacturing industry in the

Philippines that will create more jobs.
