Rae Caldwell Geo 160 July 22, Pollution Today we are going to discuss an important issue that happens in every part of the world, pollution. Pollution is the introduction of a harmful substance or energy into the environment in a way that negatively affects living things and natural systems these are called pollutants. It is one of the world most serious problems that our world faces today. There are many types of pollutants in the world. There is air pollution which is caused by smoke, dust and gases released into the air. Some things that cause these to be released into the air are vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions and burning fossil fuels. Where these get released into the air it can have harmful effects on us and wildlife. This can cause respiratory issues, climate change and acid rain. There is also water pollution which happens when chemicals, waste, or microorganisms contaminate lakes, oceans, rivers or groundwater. How this happens is from oil spills, plastics or sewage. These can cause the marine life to die, diseases, and unsafe drinking water. There is also land population and this is a big one because people dump all their waste and chemicals everywhere and anywhere. The most common sources of these are landfills, mining and industrial waste. This causes our crops not to grow as good and food contamination. There is also noise pollution which is unwanted sound that disrupts normal daily life. The most common sources of these are airplanes, traffic, machines and loud music. These can cause

This is mostly found in big cities with billboards, streetlights and buildings. This can disrupt people’s sleep and wildlife. Pollution is important for many reasons. It harms human health and can cause cancer, breathing problems and heart disease. Leading to asthma especially in older adults and children. Polluted water is very serious and can carry deadly diseases. It has a huge impact on our environment and can cause animals to die and plants. It pollutes rivers, oceans, forests and land. It destroys our natural habitats and ecosystem. It reduces the quality of life by making cities noisy and dirty. When a city is noisy and dirty it can affect people’s mental health. When pollution contaminates the soil and water it can end up in the food we eat. Pollution makes drinking water unsafe in many parts of the world. It is also expensive to clean up pollution and if it’s not cleaned up it can hurt tourism, farming and fishing. I chose this topic because I know that this is a huge problem in our world. The reason that I chose this topic was because this affects everyone in the world. No matter where you live, pollution is a serious problem worldwide. It is a huge problem that needs more attention. I also chose this because I am an animal lover, and I know that animals are dying every day because of this issue. People don’t care that a car pollutes the world, they just care about getting where they
