1. Problem Statement
In many villages, harvesting of crops like wheat, rice, and soybean still requires high labor and more time. Small
and medium farmers face difficulty due to shortage of labor during peak harvesting season. Traditional harvesting
methods also increase grain losses and operational cost. Therefore, there is a need for an efficient harvesting
machine that can perform cutting, threshing, and cleaning together.
2. Existing Method
Farmers generally use manual harvesting with sickles or separate machines for reaping and threshing. These
methods require more manpower, consume more time, and increase harvesting losses. Manual harvesting is also
physically tiring and expensive during labor shortages.
3. Proposed Solution
The proposed solution is a modified Combine Harvester suitable for small and medium-scale farms. The machine
combines reaping, threshing, separating, and cleaning operations in a single unit. It can reduce labor requirement,
save time, and improve harvesting efficiency.
4. Working Principle
The crop is cut by the cutter bar and fed into the threshing cylinder through the conveyor. The threshing unit
separates grains from stalks. The cleaning system removes dust and unwanted materials using sieves and
blowers. Finally, clean grains are collected in the grain tank.
5. Main Components
1. Cutter Bar
2. Reel
3. Conveyor
4. Threshing Cylinder
5. Concave
6. Cleaning Unit
7. Grain Tank
8. Power Unit / Engine
6. Materials Used
Mild steel frame, cutting blades, rubber belts, pulleys, bearings, conveyor chain, and diesel engine.

Mild steel frame, cutting blades, rubber belts, pulleys, bearings, conveyor chain, and diesel engine.

7. Estimated Cost

The estimated cost for developing the modified combine harvester model is approximately n1,50,000 to n2,00,000 depending on size and features.

8. Advantages

  • Reduces labor requirement
  • Saves harvesting time
  • Reduces grain losses
  • Increases operational efficiency
  • Suitable for small and medium farmers

9. Expected Benefits

The machine can increase harvesting efficiency, reduce operational cost, and improve farm productivity. It also helps farmers complete harvesting operations quickly during peak season.

10. Conclusion

The modified combine harvester is an effective solution for reducing harvesting difficulties faced by farmers. It improves efficiency and reduces labor dependency, making harvesting faster and economical.
