SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION:

The smart phones used today are much more advanced than the earlier once. Due to the advancing in the industry of mobile phone development the trend of developing and using of mobile phone application has shadowed and made many of the services easier e.g. healthcare applications. According to the study of 2018 more than 3.4 billion of the peoples are using mobile applications. Many countries are encouraging the development of these applications which give information to the professionals and provides healthcare to the professionals. Now when something in the market is becoming advanced day by day in terms of usability and utility, careful consideration must be given to the smartphones and

the smart apps. Means that the user experience must be enhanced. Since the life is becoming a rat race and everyone want to do anything faster people want an easier simpler interfaces. The interface must be simpler and easy to understand. Simplicity is achieved by giving correct orientation to the interface and aligning each element in correct order/ sorting, which is very easy to understand by the user. This research paper is about the Human Computer Interaction HCI on Mobile User Interface MUI. HCI principles tells us about the effectiveness, productivity, efficiency, least error and improving task navigation by reducing complexity. A controlled experiment was used during this research. 23 doctors using Phoenix Health Information System PHIS installed in Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH). The investigation confirmed the positive impact of the HCI principles Mental Model, Metaphor, Visibility, Affordance, and Feedback on an MUI design.

The adoption of HCI principles in implementing the mobile user interfaces. Therefore the quality of MUI confirms HCI.

MUI designers must keep in mind the interpretation he makes from the real world life. HCI designers use a mental model. A mental model is a lens with which a designer interprets the real world. It provides the effectiveness, usability in the mobile application.

Another thing is affordance, it makes it easy to identify the functionality of the Mobile application. It helps the user to perform the function quickly with minimum time consumption.

With the principle of visibility, it provides the user to understand the functionality effectively to be performed. It leads to increase the efficiency of the task to be completed.

Every action of the user receives the reaction form the app. The response of the UI should be safe and error free. It increases the safety of the user with minimum numbers of incorrect actions.

The metaphor principle provides the user with short-cuts to understanding difficult concepts in using the MUI, which can be used to shape user behavior in circumstances that are unfamiliar and that they might otherwise find confusing. Simply it provides the observer the information that what the users do in such confusing or critical conditions. It also provides information about is the user facing difficulty from the particular design or it is becoming suitable and easier for them.

MUI design guidelines based on HCI principles:

The researcher provides a list of guidelines for improving the quality in use of the MUI design inspired by the HCI principles. Sample of these guidelines are listed below:

Mental Model was created in which three tabs of views one for laboratory, Radiology and Pharmacy represented by different symbols. The symbols were created to speed up the information process. Searching is done easier by displaying the sorted elements by first characters. Setting options and menus were created to adjust the font size.

Avoid false or misleading affordance. Means to reduce the effort of the user give everything in well-mannered way so that the user can identify and access it easily. Errors are reduced by this way. Select the error message if the user enters wrong key word etc.

Provide options to help the user to perform tasks quickly using familiar symbols, that users are familiar commonly. No complex or unfamiliar symbols must be used because it will reduce the efficiency of the task and create confusion.

The view should be colorful and people who feel color blindness, should be able to use if freely without any problem. It should be suitable for all types of medical board people. The size of words should be suitable.

Feedback should be good it should highlight the response display in a separate and dominant form. Record of the patient should be displayed in such a way that while viewing the app the user’s eyes first attracted by it.

The aim of HCI designs are to make the application (MUI) suitable for all people. Who are suffering from eyes problem such color blindness, sight issues etc. So HCI provides us a complete efficient way to make a UI for people. It not only makes it for the people easier but also makes an app which is more valuable.

Controlled Experiment:

The researcher in this section identifies the effect of HCI principles on quality of MUI, by comparing them with HCI principles on desktop and mobile. The comparison is carried out on mobile UI and desktop UI. Following are the hypothesis made after comparison:

In this research, we have studied the effects of HCI principles on the quality of Mobile User Interface using healthcare context or health care application as a model for

i. (^) increasing user safety by minimizing human error, ii. increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the execution of the tasks carried out by doctors, iii. increasing the productivity of the doctors iv. Reducing the cognitive load on the doctors. The experimental investigation results proved that considering the HCI principles Mental Model, Metaphor, Visibility, Affordance, and Feedback in the MUI design increases the quality-in-use of the MUI. The experimental studies using HCI principles on mobile app revealed that the app is a success in terms of helping doctors perform their tasks in very rapidly, effectively, by selecting minimum options and completing the task successfully in less time. This increases the productivity of the application. Cognitive load was reduced by decreasing the number of actions required per view.
