I. Introduction Patriarchy is a theme commonly explored in various forms of media like literature and film. It simply shows the real life struggles of women that face society that enforces gender inequality and discrimination. In this world which is shaped by the historical and societal norms, the concept of women battling stands on the forefront of this ongoing cultural conversation. This topic must be addressed to promote awareness and education, to inspire and empower women, to strive for social and cultural transformation and empathy. It is a vital aspect of working towards a world where all individuals can live from discrimination and enjoy opportunities equally. Patriarchy is embedded in our historical norms, this complex system defines expectations for men and women. This poses multiple problems to individuals who are against Patriarchy leading to heated debates and struggle for power. Educating individuals about this topic would be really helpful and would also help people raise awareness towards Patriarchy, exploring things about patriarchy involves reading into its historical origins and its impact to the community. This discussion will be held in order to seek and unravel the layers of patriarchy, examining its elements and understanding its purpose. As of the issues confronting women, there are multiple things to keep in mind. Women would often experience any form of violence, sexual harassment and etc. Addressing these things requires legal opinion. In other regions, women would face multiple issues with their education. Lack of schools to go to, cultural norms in which men should be prioritized instead of women and early marriage, education is really important and it must not be taken away from women just because of the norms. Discrimination and stereotypes are also present and are present in various forms, women would also face challenges in accessing justice, in which most of the cases were
gender-based violence. These things must be addressed and strategies must be developed in order to take down these idiotic historical and cultural norms. There are also issues confronting homosexuals, these issues are common since the LGBTQ group receives plenty of hate. It is also important to remember that these issues may vary across different regions and cultural contexts. Some of the issues present are Discrimination and stigma, homophobic opinions still persist in the majority of societies on a global scale and it manifests in different forms such as bullying and harassment. Violence and hate crimes are also included, homosexuals are targets of violence since the majority of the individuals are homophobic and they simply like hurting people who belong in the LGBTQ group. Family rejections is also a major issue and it may lead to emotional distress causing an individual to have really low morale which leads to actual mental health issues. Experiencing hate, rejection and judgment from society contribute to high rates of mental issues among the LGBTQ members. These issues are to be addressed properly in order to show results that may actually impact the whole world. II. Discussion Discussing women against patriarchy highlights strength, determination and resilience, it emphasizes the need for collective action to address the issues and create lasting societal change. Just like how Barbie fought against Ken’s patriarchal takeover (Greta Gerwig, 2023). In which Barbie delivered a speech regarding the sexist double standards and proceeded to stop Ken’s patriarchal rule. This simply shows the resilience and the strength of Barbie leading her fellow Barbies into fighting back against the patriarchal takeover.
Society has a historical pattern of marginalizing certain groups, such as Indigenous peoples, those of African descent, and the homeless, by rendering them invisible. This marginalization is now extending to LGBTQ individuals, leading to social invisibility and denying their humanity. In educational settings, references to gay individuals often involve derogatory terms, fostering a hostile environment. Attempts by LGBTQ individuals to assert their presence can result in discrimination, violence, and long-term negative effects. Even when trying to blend in, they still face discrimination. Coleman (2019) highlights the profound consequences of this ongoing discrimination on individual well-being, contributing to broader societal negativity. Addressing issues faced by both women and the LGBTQ community is crucial, as these concerns often lack attention and sympathy. Proper education and awareness are essential to combat discrimination and violence against these groups. Marquez's 2023 findings indicate that only 15% of Filipinos residing in regions like Cavite province, Batangas province, Bacolod, Puerto Princesa, Dinagat Island, Agusan del Norte, and Davao City benefit from ordinances safeguarding against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. A comprehensive approach is needed to study and address these issues effectively. III. Stand Based on all the evidence gathered to write and discuss about Patriarchy, it is only natural for me to stand against it. It promotes inequality and it is very unpleasant in my opinion, I definitely do not adhere to this kind of thinking because I am against it and I do think that stopping Patriarchy is one of the solutions to help promote equality to all genders and educate individuals about what power is really all about.
The evidence and the current issues going on regarding women and homosexuals have me thinking about how unfair our society is towards them. It is cruel to strip rights and benefits from these people just because of cultural and historical norms. All individuals must be treated well and equally, this goes for the members of the LGBTQ and all the women in the world. I am against the inequality and the discrimination these people experience in their everyday lives. IV. Insights I used to think that certain societal issues have persisted over many years, capturing our attention and sparking extensive discussions. Among these enduring problems in our country is the pervasive influence of patriarchy. In my understanding, patriarchy manifests as the unequal distribution of opportunities, favoring men over women. This systemic structure often places men in higher positions within society, relegating women to traditional roles confined to the domestic sphere. In times when patriarchy held sway, women faced severe limitations, with restricted access to education, barring them from pursuits beyond household responsibilities. After learning the key concept of patriarchy and delving into its impact, I now recognize the profound implications it has had on gender dynamics. Patriarchal norms not only shaped societal structures but also infringed upon the fundamental rights of women. The discriminatory practices, limiting educational opportunities for women and confining them to prescribed roles, served to perpetuate a cycle of inequality. Transitioning to the issues confronting women, the foremost challenge that comes to mind is gender inequality. Expanding on the preceding conversation, it is apparent that, even in the contemporary age, women persistently encounter inequities in numerous facets of life,
V. Photos In this powerful image, a group of diverse women passionately engages in a protest, with one woman notably holding a microphone, symbolizing both her individual voice and collective empowerment. Their unified shouts signify a resolute stand against patriarchal oppression, highlighting the ongoing fight for women's rights. This carefully chosen picture underscores the strength and determination of women as they confront societal injustices, illustrating a collective resilience that challenges the status quo. The woman with the microphone becomes a symbolic focal point, representing the amplified voices of women in their unwavering commitment to combat patriarchy and advocate for gender equality. This picture relates to gender inequality, where one gender seems to have an advantage over the other. It shows a scale, symbolizing the difference in the status of the two genders.
I included this picture because I believe it's related to issues concerning women, where they experience discrimination in various aspects such as physical appearance, clothing choices, expressing opinions, and their actions. I added the diverse picture because it connects to the similar problem of treating everyone the same. Those who are different might feel left out or treated unfairly. This picture shows that not everyone is alike, and when people are isolated or treated differently, it can be
