Lab 1: INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE HARDWARE: Computer hardware is the physical components that a computer system requires to function. It encompasses everything with a circuit board that operates within a PC or Laptop; including the motherboard, graphics card, CPU, ventilation fans, webcam, power supply, and so on. SOFTWARE: Software is a collection of data or computer instructions that tell the computer how to work. This is in contrast to physical hardware, from which the system is built and actually performs the work. MONITOR: A computer monitor is an output device that displays information in pictorial form. Speaker: Computer speakers, or multimedia speakers, are speakers sold for use with computers, although usually capable of other audio uses, e.g. for an MP3 player. SYSTEM UNIT: A computer case, also known as a computer chassis, tower, system unit, or cabinet, is the enclosure that contains most of the components of a personal computer. System units are usually constructed from steel, aluminum and plastic.
An operating system (OS) is a system software that manage computer hardware, software resources, and provides common services for computer programs. THE MOTHERBOARD: All components of a computer communicate through a circuit board called the motherboard.
