Viray, Jhon Bernard A. September 23, 2022 B428- Readings in Philippine History Activity 3: Examine a Primary Source Discuss the significance of the religious and spiritual practices and beliefs of early Filipinos to the past and present Philippine society. Even before the arrival of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi in the Philippines in 1565 and brought and introduce us the Christianity, early Filipinos are already worshiping different entities, Filipinos at that time already have their idols who they worship, there was named “Bathala” who is the “all powerful” and “maker of all things” and they worship him the most by that time. Early Filipinos also worship patrons like Lacapati and Indianale who is said to be the patrons for cultivation and husbandry And when the Spaniards introduce us some patrons we start worshiping them as well. The best example of these patrons is San Isidro Labrador who is still commemorated in many farming communities in the Philippines especially in Lucban, Quezon’s Pahiyas Festival. I see that since then , even before the arrival of the Spaniards in our country we already worship gods and other entities and with the Spaniard’s arrival our Religious belief grew more we now worship Christianity and Patrons. And it continues to show Filipino’s faith in God Almighty.
