Job Title: Research Assistant – Clinical Psychology / Imaging Department/Division/Faculty: Department of Surgery and Cancer, Faculty of Medicine Campus location: Hammersmith Campus (East Acton) Job Family/Level: Research Job Family, Research Assistant (Research salary scale) Responsible to: Dr Laura Kenny Key Working Relationships (internal): Clinical Research Fellows, Clinical Trials Administrator, Research Nurse, PhD students, Post-docs, Masters and BSc students Key Working Relationships (external): Other institutions Contract type: Full time, fixed term for 12 months (with possible extension) Research Programme The post will be based at Division of Cancer and will work closely with the Division of Brain Sciences, Department of Medicine at Imperial College London. Dr Laura Kenny leads a programme of novel molecular imaging techniques in oncology. This BRC funded project will form part of a new collaboration between the Division of Cancer and Division of Brain Sciences. The research programme in the Imperial College Memory Research Centre, is led by Dr Paul Edison and focuses on Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and other causes of dementia and cognitive impairment. This new post will evaluate cognitive impairment in patients undergoing treatment for cancer. We evaluate neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration using PET and MRI. We heavily focus on basic and translational imaging using PET and MRI. We are evaluating novel microglial agents in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, the unit uses state of the art techniques in PET and MRI in clinical and diagnostic evaluation of people with memory problems. Purpose of the Post To drive new research programmes particularly evaluating different aspects of chemobrain and other projects within the unit and to ensure the research is carried out in a timely fashion, perform data collection, analysis and writing manuscripts. The post holder should be very driven with adequate experience in neuropsychological evaluation. Apart from performing neuropsychometric evaluation and data collection, the post holder will work with colleagues in Imperial College Memory Research Centre in the department of Brain Sciences with research programmes in neuroimaging in neurodegenerative disorders using cutting edge technology of PET and MRI and to develop novel techniques of image processing and analysis of complex multimodal data including machine learning. The post holder will also evaluate the interactions between different PET and MRI imaging markers with genetics and other biofluid. The successful candidate will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.
