1. What is the article's main point?
The main point is that the people in the article are cowards. Not one of
them called the police knowing it could have saved the woman’s life. I find it
disturbing, that even if it was a lovers quarrel, someone still should have called
the police.
2. The objective newspaper style is dominant in this article, but the
writer's anger shows through. List words and phrases that reveal his
attitude toward his material.
Not one person telephoned the police during the assault; one witness
called after the woman was dead.
That was two weeks ago today.
The police stressed how simple it would have beend to have gotten in thouch
with them.
3. Gansburg uses description within the essay to make his point. Provide
sections of description and discuss their use in terms of Ganburg's
purpose and the eect the description has on the reader?
Well for one the first sentence I used in #2 is one of them and it made me
think that the people who witnessed this crime and not call the police are
cowards.
4. Although we might believe if we were in the same situation, we would
have called the police, the reality is that many people do not act because of
being afraid of getting involved. Discuss a time when you didn't act when
someone needed help or when you acted and the outcome was positive (or
even negative). How did you feel? In reecting about it now, do you feel the
same? Finally, although we cannot force someone to act, what do you think
we need to do as a society in order to feel better connected to others.
Probably not the best one but I was at a local bar with my sister back in Houston.
We were having a great time drinking, laughing, and being sisters when out of the
corner of my eye I see this man and his girlfriend arguing. Now we are all 3 sheets to
the wind by then, but that is still no excuse to hit a woman; even if she makes you mad.
To my sisters regret I jump in and tell the man that he had no right to put his hands on

Probably not the best one but I was at a local bar with my sister back in Houston. We were having a great time drinking, laughing, and being sisters when out of the

her. His reply was that if I was man enough to take her place then I should step up. I did. Then woman of course made a huge scene blaming the whole matter on me, but I didn’t care. I stepped up and told him if he had the balls to hit her then he should have

the balls to hit me as well. He never did. To this day I ask myself if I should have stepped down that night and just a guy or the bouncer step in instead. Then I think

nah…. There will never be a day that I don’t stand up for someone who cannot stand up for themselves.
