The arrangement of

words and phrases to

create well-performed

sentences in a language.

Example:

“The Cat sat on the mat.”

2 ideas + 1 independent

sentence joined by a

conjunction.

Compound Sentence

1 or more ideas + 1

independent sentence + 1

or more dependent

clauses/phrases.

Complex Sentence

“The Cat sat on the mat,
eating more fish.”
“The Cat sat on the mat,
eating more fish.”
