Information needs are facts that a person wants, needs or expects in an information source. This can be driven by curiosity or the need to make a decision or complete a task. As formulated by Pia Borlund and her associates in their study, there are three different types of information needs within simulated work task situations in the school context. First, the verificative information need. How many municipalities does the town of Goa have? Second, the conscious topical information need. After finishing my high school in Goa, where will I continue to study? Will I grab the opportunity for scholarship in an urban university? Third and last, the muddled topical information need. Well, I would like to relax before continuing to study. I want to go to Puerto Galera. I need the sightseeing spots and tourist attractions to fully enjoy the vacation. I really need some suggestions. There are also FIVE COMPONENTS OF INFORMATION LITERACY. IDENTIFY - It is the nature of information in need. FIND - We need to find information efficiently and effectively. EVALUATE - We need to analyze structure and accuracy. Also, evaluate information critically. APPLY - We need to accomplish the needed information through presentations or visual aids. ACKNOWLEDGE - These are the sources of information used and we need to recognize limits as well as censorship.
