Achieve a minimum cumulative course average of 74%.

Clinical and CLL Written Assignments:

Students may be required to submit written assignments. Successful completion of these assignments will be

based on earning a pass as outlined in the grading rubrics included in the syllabus. Students who do not pass a

written assignment (i.e.: Careplan, Concept Maps and Teaching Plans) will have one opportunity to revise the

assignment for resubmission. Students who fail to complete this assignment or who do not earn a pass per the

rubric after the allowed repeated attempt will not meet the requirements for this course and will earn a grade

of “F” for this course.

Clinical Objectives 1. Observe a patient with complex mental health alterations obtaining care in an

out-patient setting with a nurse.

2. Identify variations needed to be considered by nurses providing nursing care

in an out-patient setting.

Prior to the

Experience

1. Review content related to complex mental health alterations.

2. Meet with your clinical faculty to determine where and when you can observe

nursing management of a patient with complex mental health alterations.

During the

Experience

1. Utilize the out-patient nurse as a source of information regarding the assigned

patients.

2. Identify the techniques of therapeutic communication used by the out-patient

nursing staff.

3. Identify the mental health care needs of the patients in the out-patient setting.

4. Discuss the plan of care for the patients in the out-patient setting.

5. Identify safety precautions utilized when providing nursing care to patients

experiencing alterations in mental health.

Experience

Submit a journal entry about your experience observing patients in an out-patient

setting with mental health alterations. Include in entry caring behaviors of the

nurse, patient advocacy, safety precautions utilized by community health nurse, and

your thoughts and feelings about providing care to patients in a community-based

facility. Complete a Process Recording of a client interaction. Submit a nursing care

plan and clinical packet.
