A cell phone that includes additional software functions (as e-mail or an Internet browser) is known as smart phone. Smartphones provide digital voice service as well as text messaging, e- mail, Web browsing, still and video cameras, MP3 player, video viewing and often video calling. In addition to their built-in functions, smartphones can run myriad applications, turning the once single-minded cellphone into a mobile computer. Advancements in technology, modern smartphones are smaller and cheaper than earlier devices. The RIM Blackberry dominated the smartphone market for many years, other manufacturers like Apple, HTC, and Samsung now offer a wide variety of smartphone options as well. This increase in smartphone availability has led to a corresponding decline in the usage of standard PDAs, which do not include phone capabilities.
