Million

Minute

Challenge!

Before we begin, here is

some information you

should have about

Independent/Choice

Reading……..

Students who consistently read independently
throughout their school careers can learn
from 4,000 to 12,000 new vocabulary words
Reading quietly to
yourself,
Reading out loud,
Reading to little kids,
Reading with a partner,
Reading a Newspaper or
even the Cereal
Box………….
Are all considered
Independent Reading!

Because Mrs. Donato is challenging the 6th grade to accumulate 1 million minutes of independent reading from November to April!

1,000,000 Minutes!

First, find a book and start reading!

And then record all of your reading information on a Google form that you will find in your special “Million Minute Challenge” Google classroom.

That’s right, I said :

Here’s the breakdown ………….

Pick a book and start reading. Make sure you check the
clock to see what time you started.
When you are done reading, check the clock and total up
the minutes that you have read.

And………….

Go to the “Million Minute Challenge” Google classroom and enter the

following information on the Google form:

a. FIRST AND LAST NAME b. HOMEROOM TEACHER c. BOOK TITLE d. TOTAL MINUTES READ FOR THE WEEK e. STARTING PAGE f. ENDING PAGE

What DOES NOT COUNT as

Independent Reading

Required school readings like novels,

textbooks, articles assigned by teachers or any

other READING work that is a school

assignment.

Enter all of this information

on the Google form each

week and submit it by 4:

PM on Friday.

Here’s why………………..

We need weekly totals for:

The total minutes that each individual student has read

The total minutes that each homeroom has read

The total minutes that the entire school has read
