practice issue.)
Hand hygiene protocol to address the clinical practice issue of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
Briefly describe your rationale for your topic selection. Include the scope of the issue/problem.
The clinical practice problem of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) is increasingly becoming a concern
in the healthcare sector. The hands of the healthcare professionals serve as vectors for transmitting
infections from one patient to the other. With the enforcement of hand hygiene protocol within healthcare
settings, the challenges of HAIs would be addressed and the patients will be cushioned from the problem.

2.2019 Update.

Star Point 2: Summary (Evidence to support the need for a change)

Describe the practice problem in your own words and formulate your PICOT question. Most of the hospital-acquired infections that patients get are transmitted and caused by poor hand hygiene of healthcare workers. Population- Admitted patients Intervention โ€“ Hand Hygiene Protocol Comparison โ€“ Lack of hand hygiene Outcome โ€“ Reduced HAs Time โ€“ Admission period. List the systematic review chosen from the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews from the Chamberlain library. Type the complete APA reference for the systematic review selected.

Practice in Reducing Healthcare-associated Infections: A Systematic Review. KnE Life

Sciences, 4(9), 135-145.

List and briefly describe other sources used for data and information. List any otheroptional scholarly source used as a supplement to the systematic review in APA format.

In this source, the scholars of the main article used the literature therein to affirm on the problem

of HAIs in the hospital.

In this source, the scholars asserted the significance of hand hygiene protocol and the need to

change the perceptions of the healthcare professionals towards it.

Star Point 4: (Implementation)

Describe the process for gaining permission to plan and begin a trial. Is there a specific group, committee, or nurse leaders involved? The admitted patients are involved in the process and so is the team of the healthcare providers and especially nurses and physicians. 2.2019 Update. List your stakeholders (by title and not names; include yourself) and describe their roles and responsibilities in the change process (no more than 5). Nurses are a major part of the workforce that handles patients. They are the main target of the hand hygiene protocol. As a nurse, I will be actively involved in the enforcement of the hand hygiene protocol. Physicians have limited contact with the patients but it is necessary to ensure that the limited period they are involved with the patients has adhered to the hygiene protocol. What specifically is your nursing role in the change process? Other nursing roles? The nursing role is partaking in hand hygiene protocol. List your stakeholders by position titles (charge nurse, pharmacist, etc.).-Why are the members chosen (stakeholders) important to your project? The nurses are the major component of the stakeholders. The patients are the beneficiary of the project. What type of cost analysis will be needed prior to a trial? Who needs to be involved with this? The cost analysis needed is the morbidity caused by HAIs over a period of time and undertake the same after a period of time after the implementation of the hand hygiene protocol.

2.2019 Update. Describe the plan for educating the staff about the change process trial and how they will be impacted or asked to participate. The staff members will be trained and informed about the project especially on washing their hands before and after attending to a patient. The healthcare providers will achieve patient safety through their practice. Instead of being vectors for transmitting infections from one patient to the other, they will be the agent of patient safety across healthcare facilities. Outline the implementation timeline for the change process (start time/end time, what steps are to occur along the timeline). The project will take place in 6 months to allow quantification of the available being studied. List the measurable outcomes based on the PICOT. How will these be measured? Measurable outcomes

  1. Reduced incidents of HAIs
  2. The length of stay at the hospital What forms, if any, might be used for recording purposes during the pilot change process. Describe. The forms used in the process include the one monitoring the rate of incidents in HAIs. This will be used to determine whether the incidents have fallen or not. What resources are available to staff (include yourself) during the change pilot? The resources include water, sanitizer, and towel to ensure that the hands are well washed before and after attending to a patient. Will there be meetings of certain stakeholders throughout the trial? If so, who and when will they meet? The meetings will be at the start of the project and at the end of the same to present the outcome of the
