Week 8 Reflection Throughout this course, the exploration of complementary and alternative therapies has been particularly impactful, expanding my understanding of holistic health and patient-centered care. The integration of evidence-based approaches such as herbal supplements, acupuncture, and mind-body practices highlighted the importance of respecting diverse patient preferences while maintaining a commitment to safety and scientific rigor. As a master’s prepared advanced nurse practitioner, I envision applying these concepts by fostering shared decision-making with patients, ensuring that complementary therapies are carefully evaluated for efficacy, safety, and potential interactions with conventional pharmacologic treatments (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2026). This balanced approach allows me to provide individualized care that is both culturally sensitive and grounded in best practice. Moreover, course learning activities and assignments directly supported Program Outcome 1: providing high-quality, safe, patient-centered care grounded in holistic health principles. Case studies and reflective exercises encouraged me to consider the multidimensional aspects of health, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual, rather than focusing solely on disease management. These experiences strengthened my ability to critically evaluate therapies, anticipate risks, and advocate for interventions that align with patients’ values and goals, thereby reinforcing the foundation of holistic care. In alignment with AACN Essentials Competency 1.2, the assignments also enhanced my ability to synthesize knowledge from nursing and other disciplines (sub-competency 1.2f).
