-EKG's & rhythm interpretation -Phlebotomy -Skin care -Ensuring safety What nursing skills do you feel could be improved? - answer- -Never hung blood before -Correctly identifying lung sounds -Writing succinct & clear nursing notes without omitting important information - don't want to be redundant but don't want to leave anything out either -Reading doctors' handwriting - SAFETY ISSUE Talk about a time you excelled in work or clinical? - answer- -MICU Preceptorship - I excelled there when given independence to exert my independent clinical decision making -Code Blue situation in MICU on my second to last day there - critical thinking, PATIENT ADVOCACY, application of new ACLS skills -Crotched Mountain Hospital (exemplar story) -DEU unit at CMC for medsurg rotation Talk about a time you made a mistake in clinical and how you may have learned from it? - answer- -Insulin incident at CMC -Saint Anselm policy states that a student nurse must have a clinical instructor present when giving insulin -I withdrew insulin with instructor but she then had to tend to an issue with another student's patient. She told me I could give the insulin with this patients nurse. This nurse also was tied up with a rapid response, so the medication was never administered & the patient did not receive his insulin to cover his meal -"Med error" - I was shocked/scared -Communication all around could have been better
