We encourage you to take the challenging step of applying to OCSA, and we look forward to assisting you on
your artistic and academic journey.
Application Window: November 16, 2020February 1, 2021
Step 1: Complete the Choice Application from one of the following options:
Parent Portal (for existing users)
www.osceolaschools.net/choice
www.myosceolachoice.school
Step 2: You will receive an email from OCSA-[email protected] within a week of your application
submission, if you apply prior to Thanksgiving break you will receive your email the week after Thanksgiving. The
email that you place on your application or the email that is listed for you in Focus will be the primary form of
communication. You will need to ensure that your email is correct and that you check regularly.
Step 3: The email that you receive from OCSA-[email protected] will give you a link and list of
instructions on how you will complete your Preliminary Digital Submission for your chosen art area. It will include
a link to where you will attach your required video and/or documents. Auditions will look different for each art
major. Please make sure that you carefully read the audition requirements for your selected art area. A
summary of those requirements follows. The summary that follows is a guide please be sure to follow the
directions sent to you in your email explicitly.
Step 4: You will receive your results via email along with directions if you are required to participate in a second
round of auditions. Please Note: Some art area will require applicants to participate in an addition live in person
audition or a live video audition. Being asked to participate in a live audition is not necessarily an indicator to
the acceptance or denial of a student. In some areas the digital portfolio may provide the instructors with
enough information to base the acceptance on while other areas may need more information.
Preliminary Digital Submissions- Must be submitted before the choice application period closes on February 1,
2021. If an applicant does not complete their Preliminary Digital Submission prior to February 1st they will not be
considered for admission in the initial choice selection process and will be considered a late applicant. Late
applicants will only be considered if there is space available after the initial choice application selections are
made.

& A U D I T I O N R E Q U I R E M E N T S MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL ARTS PROGRAMS Band Prospective Instrumental Music students should prepare the following to perform: INCOMING 6TH GRADE APPLICANTS: § Preliminary Digital Submission o Two contrasting pieces (one slow, one fast) on any woodwind or brass instrument, guitar, recorder, piano, or xylophone. Each piece should only be about 1 minute long. Please make sure you and your instrument are completely visible in the video. The judges need to see your fingers/hands moving in the video. String instruments (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass) should audition for Orchestra. § (^) Live Streamed with judges (May not be required for all applicants you will be notified by email if required) o Two contrasting pieces (one slow, one fast) on any woodwind or brass instrument, guitar, recorder, piano, or xylophone. Each piece should only be about 1 minute long. These can be the same pieces from the pre-recorded video. o Basic ear training and rhythmic clapping will be assessed in the audition with the director. o A short interview with the judges. § Please Note - Incoming Sixth grade students will be given full consideration and will be selected based on their potential for success, academic background and prepared audition. These students do not need to have previous experience on a band or orchestra instrument. Students will be required to rent or purchase an instrument if accepted. Students who audition on piano, guitar, or recorder will be tested, pending acceptance, for an appropriate band instrument to play in the OCSA Band Program. Guitar, Piano, and Recorder are not traditional band instruments, and the students will need to be placed for a band instrument. § A summer band camp will be required upon acceptance. INCOMING 7TH AND 8TH GRADE APPLICANTS: § Preliminary Digital Submission o Play the two required pieces found here: https://bit.ly/ocsamsbandauditions on your current band instrument. Students MUST audition on a traditional band instrument: Not piano, guitar, or drumset. Percussion MUST audition on snare and mallets. o All 7 Major Scales and the Chromatic as required by the All-County Auditions (as many as possible). § Live Streamed with judges (May not be required for all applicants you will be notified by email if required) o Play the two required pieces found here: https://bit.ly/ocsamsbandauditions on your current band instrument. These are the same ones you played in round 1. o All 7 Major Scales and the Chromatic as required by the All-County Auditions (as many as possible). o Sight Readings o A Jazz Excerpt (swing and/or Latin) if you want to be considered for the OCSA Jazz Bands. § Please Note - Incoming 7th and 8th grade students will be given full consideration pending they are at or above the level of the current members of the OCSA band program. § A summer band camp will be required upon acceptance.

& A U D I T I O N R E Q U I R E M E N T S Dance The dance program at OCSA is based on the classical foundations of dance and students accepted into OCSA’s dance program will study ballet and modern dance as their core genres. The audition will consist of a pre-recorded digital audition including both a movement combination and a one-minute solo performance. Students will pre-record the movements and upload the following for the digital dance audition. Preliminary Digital Submission (two submissions needed):

1. Movement Phrase/Combination - LEARN THE COMBINATION: Please see movement combination at the following link: https://bit.ly/ocsadanceauditions. Students should learn the movement combination first before recording the video. - Please include the following in your video: a. SLATE: At the beginning of the recording students should include a slate (or short introduction) that includes the following: state your first/last name, age, and grade. b. DANCE: Record and perform the movement combination. 2. One Minute Solo Performance - PREPARE A SOLO: Students should prepare a one-minute solo of original choreography to one of the pre-selected music choices at following link: https://bit.ly/ocsadanceauditions If a student wishes to audition with traditional, world dance form such as flamenco, African dance or Irish stepdance, he or she must provide their own music. - Please include the following in your video: a. SLATE: At the beginning of the recording (part 2) students should slate the following: state your first/last name, age, grade, and what style of dance you are going to perform. b. DANCE: Record and perform the one-minute solo. Please consider the following when preparing and recording for your digital dance audition: § The maximum time limit per audition is 3 minutes (this includes part 1, part 2 and all slates/introductions). Please make sure both videos are together; can pause between part 1 and 2 if needed. Do not send or attach your videos separately. § Audition dress code o Female Students: Leotard, footless or convertible tights, ballet slippers and/or jazz shoes. o Male Students: Form-fitting t-shirt with men's tights, leggings jazz pants or sweatpants, ballet slippers and/or jazz shoes. o Hair must be secured off of face. Bun preferred for ladies. No long ponytails or braids will be allowed. § Make sure your background or dance space is clean and clear before recording movement. § The video recording should include your full body (head to feet) when dancing, at all times. If your arms move over your head, the instructors should be able to see your arms in the video. Please do not cut off the arms or feet when dancing. If this happens, it will be difficult to adjudicate your audition. § Speak loud and clear when slating or introducing yourself. Remember you should slate at the beginning of parts 1 and 2 of your audition. § When you are finished recording, upload your audition and send to the link provided in your instructions email.

& A U D I T I O N R E Q U I R E M E N T S Orchestra Preliminary Digital Submission All applicants should prepare a video with the following:

  • (^) SLATE: At the beginning of the recording students should include a slate (or short introduction) that includes the following: state your first/last name, age, and grade.
  • Play two contrasting pieces at appropriate level from a Solo book or Etude book
  • Play as many major scales as you know Sixth and Seventh grade students will be given full consideration and will be selected based on their potential for success, students do not need to have previous experience on a string instrument, but it is desirable. Students auditioning for Eighth Grade or higher should be proficient in shifting to 4th^ position on cello, 3rd^ position on violin & viola, and to a G harmonic on string bass. All work will be evaluated based on student’s age, grade, and experience level. Vocal Music Preliminary Digital Submission All Applicants should prepare a video with the following:
  • SLATE: At the beginning of the recording students should include a slate (or short introduction) that includes the following: state your first/last name, age, grade, and the name of the songs you will be singing.
  • (^) Perform two songs of contrasting styles from the classical, folk, patriotic or sacred genres. Examples: o Classical- "Seben Crudele", "Se tu ma'mi" o Folk- "Simple Gifts", "O Danny Boy", "The Water is Wide" o Patriotic- "America the Beautiful" o Sacred- "Amazing Grace". Singing pop or music theatre music is discouraged and may cause a candidate to be rejected. Taped accompaniment may be used. Applicants will have an online interview with a faculty member. All activities will be evaluated based on student’s age, grade, and experience level.

& A U D I T I O N R E Q U I R E M E N T S HIGH SCHOOL ARTS PROGRAMS Drama Preliminary Digital Submission

  • Each prospective theater/drama student will perform one contemporary one-minute monologue. The monologue can be comedic or dramatic, and should come from a published play, as well as being within the age range of the student who is auditioning.
  • SLATE: At the beginning of the recording students should include a slate (or short introduction) that includes the following: state your first/last name, age, and grade. Live Digital Audition (Only students who complete the Preliminary Digital Submission will be considered. You will be notified by email if required):
  • Those students selected to move to the Second Round of auditions should prepare two contrasting one- minute monologues from published plays. The type of character should be appropriate for the student’s age. Extreme characters such as King Lear, comic stereotypes, etc. are discouraged. Students who do not prepare the required audition material will not be considered.
  • The student will also perform a “cold read” using a contemporary or classical monologue provided by the Department at the time of the audition. Applicants will also have an interview with a faculty member.
  • (^) All activities will be evaluated based on student’s age, grade, and experience level. Technical Theater Preliminary Digital Submission
  • (^) A questionnaire from the Technical theater department will be sent to you for your digital submission. Live in person Audition will be scheduled upon completion of the digital submission:
  • Prospective Technical Theatre students should prepare one or more of the following: A portfolio to include samples of works such as drawings, photographs, or written descriptions of environments for productions (concerts, plays, videos, etc.). Small samples of something built; a video of two minutes or less that illustrates individual’s skill and interest or a Power Point presentation that shows your ability to organize and present your ideas. Applicants will have an interview with a faculty member. All samples will be evaluated based on student’s age, grade, and experience level.
