Definitions

PLOT:

is the series of episodes, or events, that make up the story.

MINOR EVENTS:

events in the story that are NOT essential to the plot.

Conflict:

drives the plot, because it is the struggle the main character must overcome or the problem that must be solved.

EXPOSITION:

is the part of the plot that introduces the characters, setting, and sometimes the conflict.

RISING ACTION:

are the series of events that lead up to the climax. These events help build suspense and add to the conflict.

FALLING ACTION:

is the action or dialogue of a story that leads to the resolution. It occurs directly after the climax, but before the resolution.

RESOLUTION:

is the last part of the story in which the conflict is finally solved and the action comes to a satisfying end.
