INITIATION

Rhythmic motion of the limb or body through

the desired range, starting with passive

motion and progressing to active resisted

movement.

RHYTHMIC INITIATION

1. PLANNING : why motion needs to be done? **what ADL should be chosen as functional task?

  1. 4 PHASES OF ACTIVITY** PASSIVE MOTION ACTIVE ASSISTED MOTION RESISTED MOTION ACTIVE MOTION

DESCRIPTION

EXAMPLE- PICKING UP A PHONE CALL (ADL) demonstration MACHINE LEARNING

What will happen

if the functional

task is not

chosen?

REVERSE MOTION WILL BE DONE BY THE THERAPIST. a. THERAPIST b. PATIENT c. BOTH PATIENT & THERAPIST AND WHY ???

QUICK QUIZ REVISION

WHAT SHOULD BE THE FIRST STEP BEFORE STARTING THE RYTHMIC INITIATION? A. IDENTIFIYING THE MOVEMENT THAT NEEDS TO BE TRAINED B. IDENTIFYING THE ADL WHICH INCLUDES THE REQUIRED MOVEMENT C. PROPER INSTRUCTIONS TO PATIENTS D. ALL OF THE ABOVE

QUICK QUIZ REVISION

WHAT WOULD BE THE BENEFIT OF USING FUNCTIONAL TASK OVER SIMPLE TASK? A.BETTER MOTOR LEARNING B.POOR MOTOR LEARNING C.MORE EXPERIENCE OF PAST D.BOTH A & C

CONTRACT RELAX

DIRECT METHOD

CONTRACT RELAX- STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED

DIRECT METHOD

  1. Joint placed in end range of motion
  2. Resisted isotonic contraction of antagonist group of muscles contraction. It should be held for at least 5–8 seconds
  3. After sufficient time, the therapist tells the patient to relax.
  4. The joint or body part is repositioned , either actively by the patient or passively by the therapist, to the new limit of the passive range. Active motion is preferred and may be resisted.
  5. The technique is repeated until no more range is gained.

DISCUSSION WITH EXAMPLES

2. Increasing the range of shoulder flexion, abduction, and external rotation.

  1. Open your hand and lift your arm up as high as you can
  2. Squeeze my hand and pull your arm down and across.
  3. Keep pulling your arm down.
  4. Relax, let everything go loose.
  5. Now, resist the patient’s motion into the newly gained range. Open your hand and lift your arm up farther.
  6. Squeeze and pull your arm down; now open your hand and lift your arm up again

Increasing the range of shoulder flexion, abduction, and external rotation.

CONTRACT RELAXTECHNIQUE IS USED TO TREAT?
A.GROUP OF ANATGONIST MUSCLES
B.GROUP OF AGONIST MUSCLES
C.BOTH AGONIST & ANTAGONIST CAN BE TREATED
D.NONE OF THE ABOVE
