WHAT?
Portfolio Assessment is an
authentic assessment that is a
deliberate, ongoing, dynamic,
and collaborative process that
collects multiple indicators of
students' progress and
development in a subject. Also,
it is based on the systematic
collection of students’ work
such as activities, exams and
projects which serves as
evidence that the student is
able to meet the intended
learning outcomes.
HOW?
First, the students are required to
keep their works and outputs and
compile them in a portfolio at the end
of the quarter. The teacher will
indicate the type of portfolio the
students would make such as
showcase, process, or combination of
the two. The teacher would also
provide the students a criteria or
rubrics so that the students would
know what they are expected to do in
their portfolio. The students can
design the portfolio however they
want and it improves their creativity.
The teacher would assess the
portfolio created by the students at
the end of every quarter or semester,
however, the portfolio can be graded
or not.
Portfolio Assessment is important in education in order
for teachers as well as students to monitor the
progress in their learning and development of their
skills. With the use of portfolio assessment the
teachers could determine if the learners have
continuous progress throughout a period of time and
to determine if they achieve the intended learning
outcomes. This also gives the students the
responsibility of their own learning and improvement
by allowing them to reflect based on the data of their
portfolio. With the help of portfolio assessment the
students would be able to identify their strengths and
weaknesses so they could find a way to improve their
skills and enhance their knowledge in order to reach
