Select one of your most favorite brands. Describe three levels of the product and make a positioning

statement for it.

Uniqlo is a modern Japanese clothing apparel company that creates affordable, high-quality casual

wear for all. In the last decade, the company has rapidly grown, becoming the largest Asian fast-

fashion brand. The three levels of product include the core customer value, the actual product, and the

augmented product (Kotler and Armstrong, 1991).

1. The core customer value

This is the basic need or wants that the customer is trying to satisfy. When a customer purchases

Uniqlo products, they are looking to buy not only something to wear but also clothing that is

comfortable, functional, and affordable for everyday use. Additionally, Uniqlo chooses to create

products that are both innovative and minimalistic. They do not run the same race as all of their

competitors, nor do they suffer from temporary trends (5 Reasons Why Uniqlo’s Marketing Strategy

Works, 2021). Uniqlo promotes the classical basics with simple but elegant and well-tailored clothing,

making their fashion the building blocks of each person's own unique style.

2. The actual product

they can alter an item's size or color. (Uniqlo, n.d). Besides that, Uniqlo also launched a Magic Mirror

service, which allows customers to virtually try on different clothing colors using augmented reality

(Uniqlo | World's First Magic Mirror, 2012).

Positioning Statement

A positioning statement is a brief description of a product or service, its target market, and how the

product or service meets a specific need of the target market (Kotler & Armstrong, 2018). Hence, the

positioning statement I make for Uniqlo is: “For everyone from the age 18 to 40 who looks for

something that is positive to wear and that is not fussy, Uniqlo is a modern Japanese clothing company

that inspires people to dress casually by providing high-quality minimalistic clothing that fits their

personal lifestyles while maintaining the ideal price.”
