Braga Grade 12-Zeus Inquiries, Investigation, and Immersion Quarter 1: Module 4- Lesson 1: Understanding Data and Ways to Collect Data Lesson 1: Research Design Practice Task 1: Identification of appropriate research design • Why is there a need to identify research method that is appropriate to your study? Give your justifications. ❖ There is a need to identify research method that is appropriate to my study because it will determine the course of my research. It is an important decision to make before anything else, as it will determine the success of my study. First, it will determine if my research is qualitative or quantitative, and what type of quantitative or qualitative research it is. Second, the research method will be my guide on planning my research. Third, choosing the best method for my study will enable me to quantify my expenditures, especially time and money, in doing my research. Fourth, it will significantly impact the reliability of my results. Lastly, as a researcher, it will enable me to appropriately conduct, especially the sampling and data analysis, of my research. Write a draft of research design you think is applicable to your study. Research: Impact of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 on the Mental Health of Youth in Davao de Oro Type of research: Quantitative Research • This study is a quantitative research as the researcher aim to know the different mental health problems and quantify those youth who suffer negative mental health. Quantitative method: Survey Research • Due to the restrictions resulted by the pandemic, the researcher will use the survey research method to conduct the study. The researcher will use an online survey to collect data on the respondents. Type of Quantitative research question: Descriptive research questions • The study will use descriptive research questions as the researchers wants to know: 1. What are the symptoms of mental health problems that the respondents are experiencing? 2. How often do they feel the symptoms? 3. What circumstances that these symptoms mostly appear? 4. What other factors that contribute to their mental health problems in relation with the COVID-19 pandemic? 5. What mental health problems arise during this pandemic based on the symptoms? Practice Task 2: Charting the Differences of Research Designs Research Design/ Research Method Needs population, subjects, and respondents Needs tools of measurement Both produce data to analyze A systematic investigation Numerical/statistical data Hypothesis testing Used structured data collection methods Sample size is large and random. Conducted in controlled setting Types are survey, causal-comparative, experimental and correlation research. Primarily exploratory research/A naturalistic inquiry Hypothesis generation Textual Data Used to uncover trends in thought and opinions and dive deeper to the problem. Data collection methods vary using unstructured or semi- structured techniques. Sample size is typically small, and respondents are selected to fulfill a given quota. Types are ethnography, narrative, phenomenological, grounded theory and case study. Quantitative Research Qualitative Research Qualitative Research Ethnography Narrative Phenomenological Grounded Theory Case Study Qualitative Research Survey Causal-Comparative Experimental Correlation Research Designs/ Methods to produce data • Availability of the Respondents Not all the participants are free within a specific time for them to answer the questionnaire. Therefore, the respondents needed a flexible time to answer in their own free will the survey. • Confidentiality of Data By sending the link survey to their personal account, the confidentiality of the data will be between the respondent and researcher. Most importantly, the privacy of the respondent will be protected • Accuracy of Data The survey can involve many participants, thus, making the data accurate. Additional Tasks Task 1. Re-evaluate the data collection procedure The data gathering tool that will be used is the online survey questionnaire. This type of method doesn’t need interviews and observation guide. Also, the study will not need interviews and observation guide as it is not designed for face-to-face interaction between the researcher and respondent. Task 2: Present the manuscript of data collection procedure 1. Select 110 participants from 11 municipalities based on those who gave their consent on the first online survey. 2. Make an online survey questionnaire on the Google Form platform. 3. Send the link of the survey to the email address or Facebook account given by the participant for them to answer. 4. Collect data and analyze results. Additional Tasks Task 1: Figure out the target sample population of your study The target sample population of the study is the 110 participants from the 11 municipalities. Each municipality has 10 participants, five men and five women, ages 15-30 years old. Task 2: Describe and present the sample population in tabular form SAMPLE POPULATION FROM 11 MUNICIPALITIES IN DAVAO DE ORO MUNICIPALITIES Number of Participants AGE MALE FEMALE Compostela 5 5 15-30 Maragusan 5 5 Monkayo 5 5 Montevista 5 5 New Bataan 5 5 Laak 5 5 Mabini 5 5 Maco 5 5 Mawab 5 5 Nabunturan 5 5 Pantukan 5 5 TOTAL 55 55
