c Year : 2020/2021 Lecturer :Ts Dr Wong Mee Chu
Session : 202005 Submission
due date 21 August 2020
Assignment (May 2020)
Objective:
Evaluate the methods for processing materials for corrosive environment applications and
the possible failure of materials.
Introduction:
Aggressive environment is often a major cause in the degradation of materials. In
particular, all metals may corrode when continually exposed to corrosive environment.
For instance, high performance corrosion resistant alloys are needed for refineries,
chemical processing plants, wind turbines, power plants and also extraction of oil and
gas.
Instruction:
1. This is a group assignment. Form a group of 5 members.
2. Contribution to the overall marks of (35%) is as follow: 20% GROUP marks
and 15% INDIVIDUAL marks. Please refer to the assignment rubrics (page 2)
for the marks breakdown out of 100%.
3. With reference to (2), each student need to place their name to indicate the
section/pages of the assignment he/she worked on.
4. Choose ONLY one of these metals: Steels OR Nickel alloys OR Aluminium
alloys and evaluate the processing method for the chosen metal and also the
possible failure of the metal in a corrosive environment. Refer to the assignment
rubrics (page 2) for the detailed requirements.
5. Prepare a written report limited to 20 pages. Exceeding the page limit will result
in deduction of marks under the format section. Submit the PDF file via WBLE
submission link latest by 21st August 2020 (Friday). Late submission will result
in deduction of 1 mark per day from the submission due date.
