1 Chapter 1 The Problem and Its Background Introduction Time management plays vital role in improving student’s academic performance and achievements. Each and every student should have time management ability which includes setting goals & priorities, using time management mechanism and being organized in using time. According to Noftle, Robins & Richard (2007), time management are the few activities performed by today’s university students, which act as a barrier between them and their academic performance. Due to miss management of time they gap behind. This study will help to analyze the positive or negative impact of time management on academic performance of students. It will also help to make some decision about changes we would like to make to use our time more effectively. There is no one right way to manage ones time, however; it is important to get to know ones self, so he can make good decisions about how to use his time. Likewise, in the process of providing educational services this issue has been a subject of interest discussed and emphasized in several platforms and an attempt has been initiated to assess and analyze time and the time management attitudes and behaviors of students in educational institutes (Denlinger, 2009).
According to the latest data of Commission on Higher Education (CHED 2010) about 216,000 students in the country are currently juggling school and work and almost working students today are mostly into food service, entertainment and sales, apart from their usual stints as library and research assistants. Right now being Working student is not easy. You need to do some techniques on how should you able to manage you time in school and in work, and also you need to study hard for your academic performance. In one commercial of Nescafé, there is one security guard at the same time a student. He also have his childrens that is studying also. But because of his being temper, he is now succesful in life. He became teacher. Statement of the Study This study determined the academic performance of the selected working students and the way they apply their time management. For its purpose, it seek to answer the following questions: 1.What time management do working students employ in work and academics? 2.How does work affects the academic performance of a working students? Significance of the Study This study would be more even effective and more beneficial to: Employers: The employer will get more ideas on how they will earn salary and how will they manage their time wisely.
Schools: The school will take more consideration on their students who are working and they would likely to give more attentions on their students needs. Parents: The parents would likely to be more knowledgeable on how they will treat their son/daughters more nicely and comfortable. Working students: The working student could be inspire on this study as they will going to know the well known people who succeed in life like in their situation. Scope and Delimitation of the Study This study is limited to working students and their academic performance and their time management. The respondents were Junior High school and Senior High School in San Jose Community High School. They were working Students at the time of the study. This study utilized descriptive research design that explore the time management and the academic performance of a working student. It did not look in the cause and effect and therefore was also observational in terms of data collection. Conceptual Framework OUTPUT Plan of action to enhance time management of a working student to enhance their academic performance.
*Data Gathering *Administration of the questionnaire
What is the profile of the respondents in terms of their General Average.
Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature and Studies Related Literature According to European journal of alternative education studies in developing countries where students have a lot of issue during academic journey have a new story for the researcher to dig out much more interesting result. Time management practices have an impact on the result of students as empricial studies done by post research. In spite of knowing about the impact of time on academic achievement. This relationship is not given importance by the students SEVARI & KANDY (2011). Student have no time for studies because some students is busy about social media some as busy about work and no time for their academic work. Khan (2016) stated that the researchers is only focusing on what are the other best way to solve Academic perfomance issues. But none of the others research conclude that the time management is the of best way to dealing with academic perfomance issues because of time management is only one thing to organize and taking with an direct action in a head. The other factors the affects the Academic perfomance of the students are due to social, psychological, economic, environmental, and personal factors. But on his study he find out the best to deal to those factors are right time management to solve all
issues slowly and carefully in order for the student to perform well on their school Mushtag (2016). Cagayan and Goral (2009) indicate that the concept of time is perceptive and it is essential that time be used correctly and effectively from childhood. From adolescence onwards, a sense of time management starts to developed. In this study, it focuses on how can we used our time appropriately started from childhood to adolescence. William(2006). This literature review examined research-based information on educational approaches and programs associated with improving the academic performance of Native American students. A search reviewed ERIC's over 8, documents on American Indian education, as well as master's and doctoral dissertations and other sources of research on the education of Native Americans. Selected research reports and articles were organized into the following categories: early childhood environment and experiences; Native language and cultural programs; teachers, instruction, and curriculum; community and parental influences on academic performance; student characteristics; economic and social factors; and factors leading to success in college or college completion. In addition, to Horowitz (2012), the reader must also be intentional and thoughtful while reading, monitoring the words and their meaning as reading progresses. And the reader must apply reading comprehension strategies as ways to be sure that what in being read matches their expectations and builds on their growing body of knowledge that is being stored for immediate or future reference. De Guzman, De Castro (2011) graduates need to develop personal skills, qualities and experiences that enable to them to compete in the labor market. The
In one of the study entitled Effect of time management skills on students academic performance by students time is a limited resource. Like other limited resources, time can be more or less effectively managed. We propose that differences among individuals in time management practices account for some of the differences in how much students achieve during their school years. The self-perception of having good time management skills is considered to have a direct correlation to performance levels. Students who perceive themselves as having good time management skills are usually the students who are more involved and have a high desire to achieve, resulting in a higher level of performance. According to the study of (Kelly,2019) “Whether you are working to put yourself through college or you are someone who is going back to school to advance your current career, managing time in your professional and academic life is no easy task, especially when you have additional responsibilities competing for your time, such as raising children. We lament how our busy lives make it tough to keep up with it all and how we wish there were more hours in a day; while I have no doubts that many people are truly busy, the truth is that it is not lack of time that is usually not the issue, but poor time management.” Angelo Dulas (2010) Primarily, the study was conducted to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and academic performances on Math and English subject of science high school students. The objectives are (a) to find what level of self- efficacy do High school students have and (b) to explore if there is gender difference among high school students in terms of their self-efficacy and academic performance.
In the study of Hill and Tyson (2009) Early adolescence is often marked by changes in school context, family relationships, and developmental processes. In the context of these changes, academic performance often declines, while at the same time the long-term implications of academic performance increase. In promoting achievement across elementary and secondary school levels, the significant role of families, family–school relations, and parental involvement in education has been highlighted. Although there is a growing body of literature focusing on parental involvement in education during middle school, this research has not been systematically examined to determine which types of involvement have the strongest relation with achievement. According to Marsh (2005),the performance of a working student in school only affects on what kind of job does the student have. Let us say for example, a student have morning classes and his work is at night, and his school finish from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, the remaining time he have is only too short, Take one hour before he go to his work again that result that the student been forsaken his school responsibilities that affects their academic performance in school. The study of Shabahana (2016) proves that many partial study are earned out to investigate factors affecting collage student’s performance in terms of time management is their more nearer to answer the probably factor and reasons that affecting the performance he figured it out that the time management is the essential key to solve the multitasking of the students to achieve and to finish their studies. According to Marsh(2016) In his study that the performance of a working student in school only affects on what kind of job does the student have. Like in his study he
selves to be more on productive people on their country. And in his research he figure it out that as long you manage your time wisely the more productive and successful you will be. The study of Shababan(2016) proves that’s many practical studies are carried earned out to investigate factors affecting collage student performance in terms of time management is more nearer to answers the probably factors and reasons that affecting the performance. He also discover in his research that the time management is the essential key to solve the multi tasking of the students to achieve and to finish their studies. Base on the study of Nicom (2017) the “Work-Study balance” has been on going struggle for working students. Because of lack self discipline the students more likely to failed in their class and they blaming it on their work, just for a reason and excuses but the truth is the working student really have no idea on having a proper time management skills that will help the student to balance their work and study. It was revealed in the study of Christina (2013)student student’s job have become sort of trend among students around the world who wants to work while studying some student can handle this situation but some are not maybe they earn money and wants to work but some pursuit to finish in short the term was suit this trend is earn and learn. Based on research, working while studying also know as “student worker “that usually should suit on their specific time in work and order to balance their school after their duties” so that they are not stress so much.

Cristina (2013). At the study of Nucub (2018). Over the years the concept of "work study balance" has been an ongoing struggle for working students while there can be a number of factors involved financial crisis is still the primary reason why students take part time (of full time) jobs. Running from school to work and juggling academic requirements and side hustle while keeping your family social or love life in check is a truly daunting task. If you work it and have your interest you may achieve it but you need to pursuit if with your whole strenght and your full attention for your goal. It was revealed in the study of student academic performance measurement has received considerable attention in previous research, it is challenging aspect of academic literature and science student performance are affected due to social, psychological, economics, environment and personal factor. Those factors affect them because those are the common problems we usually encounter on our daily lives, but those factors that affect the student performance could possibly solve my right time management skill. In the way of slowly solving all issues in life but until all of the problems is solve by in that way all of the factors of that affect student performance negatively could be no issue on student life anymore MOHAMMAD(2016).
