LESSON TWO ₊˚.
plate boundaries are the lines at the edges of the
different pieces of lithosphere.
lithospheric plates are moving due to the convection
current in the earth’s interior.
Lithosphere it is made up of crust and upper part of
the mantle.
two types of crust
Continental Crust - it is made up of granite, low
density.
Oceanic Crust it is made up of basalts, high
density.
always remember, when magma moves in the
aesthenosphere the plate tectonic that are located at the
crust are moving too.
different types of boundaries
Divergent Boundary
also known as constructive boundary.
it refers to plates that separate and move apart in
opposite directions.
new crust is created as magma cools and solidifies.
magma solidifies because of the water and air.
some info, the red sea is one example of it, it all started
when the Arabic plate and African plate started to separate
from each other.
The magma that cant get out of the rift valley is finding
another way in order for them to go out. It is also the reason
why there is a volcano around the boundaries.
if the land is located at the center of the rift, it means that it
is the newest and hottest land. but when the land is far from
the rift, it means that it is older and cooler land.
(continental continental) rift valley.
(oceanic Oceanic) seafloor spreading, mid
ocean ridge.

LESSON TWO ‧₊˚✩彡.

plate boundaries – are the lines at the edges of the

different pieces of lithosphere.

– lithospheric plates are moving due to the convection

current in the earth’s interior.

Lithosphere – it is made up of crust and upper part of

the mantle.

two types of crust

Continental Crust - it is made up of granite, low

density.

Oceanic Crust – it is made up of basalts, high

density. always remember , when magma moves in the aesthenosphere the plate tectonic that are located at the

crust are moving too. different types of boundaries

Divergent Boundary

– also known as constructive boundary.

– it refers to plates that separate and move apart in

opposite directions.

– new crust is created as magma cools and solidifies.

magma solidifies because of the water and air. some info, the red sea is one example of it, it all started when the Arabic plate and African plate started to separate from each other. The magma that can’t get out of the rift valley is finding another way in order for them to go out. It is also the reason why there is a volcano around the boundaries. if the land is located at the center of the rift, it means that it is the newest and hottest land. but when the land is far from the rift, it means that it is older and cooler land.

(continental – continental) – rift valley.

(oceanic – Oceanic) – seafloor spreading, mid

ocean ridge.

rift valley – can also be found at the bottom of the

ocean where seafloor spreading occurs.

mid-ocean ridge – is formed by the divergence

between oceanic plates while continental rift valley is

formed between continental plates.

Convergent Boundary

  • also known as destructive boundary.
  • is formed when two plates move toward each other.

subduction – is a process where one of the crust will

get destroyed or sink, and the other one will become new.

Subduction zone – is where the subduction happens

or occurs. the location of it is the same as the location of the trench.

(continental – oceanic) – the oceanic crust will

sink because it is heavier and have a higher density.

  • as a result of it, it forms a continental volcanic arc. (oceanic^ –^ oceanic)^ –^ the older oceanic crust will sink because it has a higher density than the new one.
    • as a result of it, it forms a volcanic island arc.

(continental – continental) – there’s no

subduction in here because the continental crust are light.

  • it only folds until it becomes mountain.
  • as a result. it forms a mountain belt.

Transform Fault Boundary

  • also called as strike-slip fault.
  • are plates sliding or slipping past each other.
  • earthquakes are more dangerous and more frequent. always remember , the hot will always rise because it has less dense the cool.
