Scrabble is a strategic word game that challenges players to construct words on a game board
using letter tiles. To play Scrabble, you will need the official Scrabble board, 100 letter tiles, four
tile racks, and a tile bag.
Number of Players: Two to four players. Each player competes to create words on the board to
accumulate points.
Duration of Play: Each match will last 25 minutes.
Game Setup:
1. Arrange the Board: Place the Scrabble board on a flat surface accessible to all players.
2. Distribute Racks and Tiles: Each player selects a tile rack and draws seven tiles from the
tile bag, placing them on their rack without revealing them to other players.
3. Determine Turn Order: Players draw one tile each from the bag; the player with the letter
closest to 'A' goes first. Return the tiles to the bag and shuffle.
Gameplay Mechanics:
1. Starting the Game:
โ— Players determine the starting player by drawing tiles; the player with the
letter closest to 'A' starts the game. In case of a tie, redraw.
โ— The first word must be placed on the center star square, which acts as a
double-word score.
2. Word Formation:
โ— Players take turns forming words using their tiles. Words can be formed
horizontally or vertically on the board.
โ— Each new word must connect to the existing words on the board, similar to
a crossword puzzle.
3. Scoring Words:
โ— Calculate the score for each word formed by summing the point values of the
tiles used.
โ— Apply any special square bonuses:
1. Double Letter Score (DLS): Double the point value of the letter on this
square.
2. Triple Letter Score (TLS): Triple the point value of the letter on this
square.
