Dispersible Tablets
Dispersible tablets are uncoated or film-coated tablets that need to be dispersed in
water before administration, which forms a homogeneous type of dispersion. It is very
difficult for children and elderly patients to swallow conventional tablets, dispersible
tablets are beneficial routes of drug administration for them. Thus, they are regarded
as the safest, most convenient and most economical method of drug delivery having
the highest patient compliance. The advantages of dispersible tablets are that they
combine the advantages of solid dosage forms and liquid dosage forms, which can be
used for unstable drugs in liquid dosage forms, and provide rapid effects through
rapid disintegration and bioavailability. In addition, they also can help maintain the
stability of the drug in a solid dosage form and make it palatable, which can be easily
used in pediatric and elderly patients, and those in the uncooperative state provided
that the taste of the drug is masked with appropriate masking agents.
