Healthy Classroom Climate Ashley Creech WGU Establishing Positive and Engaging Learning Evironments Ryann Sawyer May 19, 2026
Healthy Classroom Climate I chose scenario 1, which talks about two students joining the class in the middle of the year from different cultural backgrounds who were having difficulties relating to other students. I would create an activity for a 2nd-grade class titled “Culture and Kindness Circles.” In this activity, students would be assigned to small groups, and each group would present something special to them, like a tradition, food, game, or holiday. Students would make a small drawing or symbol of their identity that would be put on a classroom “Community Wall.” The teacher would set an example for listening respectfully, would promote positive comments, and champion the rules in the classroom concerning kindness, inclusion, and active participation (Martinsone et al., 2023). Students would also be changed partners so that each child could have the chance to communicate with various students. During this activity, students will demonstrate respect, empathy, and belonging, which contribute to a healthy classroom environment. Students start to see similarities and understand differences through the sharing of experiences and information about other cultures. Structured partner/ group interactions help alleviate any sense of isolation with the new students and allow practice with inclusive behaviors by the current students. Teaching classroom norms: listening to each other respectfully, speaking to each other kindly, and including everyone provides the positive routines that support students in feeling emotionally safe (Martinsone et al., 2023). In addition, the implementation of community-building strategies fosters increased student-to- student communication and relationship-building; thus creating a caring classroom community in which students feel valued, accepted, and committed to learning. It develops students’ realization of the importance of working with each other, inside and outside of the classroom.
