Informative Speech: Communication ethics
Ethics is the difference between what you have a right to do and what is
right to do” -Potter Stewart
As we grow older, we tend to adopt some inappropriate words from
other people. But have we ever asked ourselves if our words would not affect
them? Communication is always the key for us to understand others, but
communication without ethics may be a barrier for your listeners to
understand you. To help yourselves be void in such unethical
communication, you must know the fundamentals of ethical communication:
you should be responsible in decision making and the development of
relationships towards people that surrounds you. Why do we need to know
this? consequently the answer of the question is actually a million answer, in
the contrary we can actually observe ethics in a pyramid. Yes, a pyramid that
consists of : Firstly, intent. Secondly, means and thirdly, ends. To be an
ethical speaker or listener it is important to begin with ethical intentions such
as honesty can always attract listeners and make them ensure of you being
trustworthy. Mean are the tool we do employ to achieve what we desire so
that we realize there are possible behavioral choices which could be good or
bad such as asking a favor from someone. You can easily thank him in
advance and explain how his/her opinion matter or you can threaten him/her
about something they did. As a result you could still have the same end but
you can choose the moral or immoral way for it. Ends, which the last /final
part of the ethical pyramid. The outcomes you desire to achieve is obviously
the end, we need to examine ends, to think about both speaker and listener

To sum up it all, Ethics serve as a guide to moral daily living and helps us communicate with others with respect. It’s important to know what’s right and what’s wrong because an ethical person will not speak rude and offensive words so that there’s no misunderstanding while communicating with others. Also some of the particulars of one culture’s code may differ from the particulars of a different culture’s code. We need to apply good practices such as treating others with kindness and respect because everyone deserves to be treated right whether who or what you are. Applying ethics in our daily lives will help us develops a good relationships with others.
