Assignment

3.2ANAFRICANPHILOSOPHYOF EDUCATION

1. Decolonization(Education)

To move away from western philosophy and to make education more applicable to the countries inhabitants’ examples of this would be teaching learners more African philosophies and their meaning for example Ubuntu. It’s a way for young people to reclaim their ethnicity and uniqueness which is important for me as an educator to understand to take into consideration

2. African communalism

Since it is a moral doctrine that values human dignity, rights, and responsibilities and group projects are a great way to incorporate all these elements for learners. As I am doing teaching practice it is well to take this into consideration and to view if group work truly achieves these conditions

3. Ubuntu (Humanness)

IneducationUbuntuisawaytoconnecthumanityasawhole.Itisavitalfa ctorof education. The association between a person and their community is reliant and mutually beneficial.

4. Africanization

It offers the learner a sense of belonging in the classroom by way of cultural familiarity. It is a process where the defining and interpretation of African culture takes place along with identity.

5. IndigenousKnowledge(IKS)

This is knowledge that is passed down from generation to generation and are thingslikemyths, folkloreetc.TeachinglearnersmoreAfricanmythswil lgenerate curiosityabouttheircountry’sownmythos.Implementingitinhistoryas

MYTEACHINGPHILOSOPHY (BELIEFS)

a.Whydoyou wanttobea teacher? To enrich children’s lives with knowledge and to help them nurture their talents and to inspire them to follow their dreams. With the right education and tools these children will be next leaders of our country and will do remarkable things and I hope to be the teacher to help and inspire a few of these people. b.Whatsubjectandagegroupyouwouldliketoteachandwhy? I would like to teach History and English for any age but will prefer ages 11 to 13(grade 5to 7).Ienjoyhistoryitself asit teaches us aboutevents of the past and how we can learn from them and from the past’s mistakes so we as people never make them again. English is because it’s the worlds default language and will help learners with ambitions of going overseas and because I really enjoy English. Why the age ranges you ask? Well, I believe those are the age ranges Ill make the biggest impact on. c.Howyoubelieveteachingshouldtakeplace? Depending on the subject teaching should take place in classrooms for subjects such as Afrikaans, English and mathematics and in a lab for things such as natural science and technology since subjects like that requires learners to interact with their content much more frequently. But teaching should involve learners asmuch as possible with things like questions, group projects and class discussions. d.Howyoubelievelearnerslearnbest? I believe learners learn best by interacting with their schoolwork as much as possible and by doing so they will have a better chance of retaining the information especially at a young age. e.Whyyoubelieveteachingisavital profession?

periods had to plan and practice their dance to in the end perform in front of the teacher for marks. Constructivism: In Afrikaans learners were given a scenario involving an accident, and after the scenario was presented to the learners they had to divide the class in halfand workin 2groups to give ideas and concepts on how the accident could have been prevented and why they believe these ideas would work.
