Formal speech style is a straightforward approach to speaking. The speaker

avoids slang terminologies, and the speaker says something that is prepared

beforehand. This style usually involves complex sentences that are well-

structured, strongly coherent, and logically sequenced.

Consultative Speech Style

Doctor- Patient Interactions Class Discussions Group Discussions The Consultative Speech Style is a semi-formal style that tends to be shorter and more spontaneous because the speaker does not usually plan ahead about what he says. Unlike the formal and frozen speech styles, this style involves cooperation but doesn’t necessarily require involvement. This means that the listeners can give feedback to make sure that the speaker is understood properly. Examples

Intimate Speech Style

Couples talking about future plans Close friends sharing secrets Conversations between very close friends The Intimate Speech Style is used for very close relationships like family and couples. This speech style is used in conversation among people who know each other well because they have a lot of shared background information. This speech style might also involve non-verbal gestures such as the raising of an eyebrow to communicate something only the communicators understand. Example
