An overview of the Inca civilization, focusing on their geographical location, government, farming practices, and religious beliefs. The Incas, who lived in the Andes Mountains from 1200 to 1535, are known for their extensive terrace farming system, which allowed them to cultivate crops on steep mountain sides. Their government was ruled by an emperor, the Sapa Inca, and a Supreme Council, while their religion was polytheistic, with Inti, the sun god, being one of their main deities. The Incas also developed quipus, a system of knotted strings used for record-keeping.

The Incas carved flat terraces into the mountainous terrain in order to grow crops.
⦿ Terrace Farming turned otherwise unusable land, such as the sides of the Andes Mountains where the Incas lived, into land to grow crops like corn (maize), potatoes and quinoa. ⦿ Terraces also collected and distributed water throughout reducing soil erosion. ⦿ Terraces also prevented flooding and excessive runoff.
