Introduction A solution is a homogeneous mixture in which one substance (solute) dissolves completely in another substance (solvent). In daily life, we prepare many solutions such as salt water, sugar water, and alum solution. In this project, we prepare true solutions of common salt, sugar, and alum using water as a solvent and study their properties.
To prepare true solutions of:
Material Required- Common salt Sugar Alum(fitkari) Water Three clean beakers or glass tumblers Glass rod or spoon Measuring spoon
o A true solution is a mixture in which the solute dissolves completely in the solvent. o The particles of a true solution are very small and cannot be seen with naked eyes. o True solutions are transparent and do not scatter light. o The solute does not settle at the bottom and cannot be separated by filtration.
C. Preparation of Alum Solution
Common Salt--->Clear and transparent--->True solution Sugar--->Clear and transparent--->True solution Alum--->Clear and transparent--->True solution
Common salt, sugar, and alum dissolve completely in water to form true solutions. The solutions are clear, transparent, and homogeneous.
From this experiment, we conclude that: Common salt, sugar, and alum are soluble in water. They form true solutions when dissolved in water. True solutions are transparent and stable.
